Part 1: Finished Clay Half Scale

Here are a few pictures of Mother Mary in clay at half scale 30” tall. This one took me two months for approval, her face took me one month to fine a specific peaceful look, that the customer was looking for. Now I can start gluing up the large block of wood. So happy to make it to this stage, thank you for looking!

Part 2: Carving the Clothing & Base

It’s been three months of gluing up the large block of wood 24” x 24” x 63” tall, then carving all of the clothing and base. Next I will be starting on the face then to the hands. Here are 30 pictures of some steps of me carving. Thank you for looking!!!!

Part 3: Hand Carving a Female Face

It’s kind of amazing with all the small differences between a mans face compared to the female face. Carving Mary’s face was really fun for me, it took about three weeks. The customer wanted her to look young around 15 years old with a peaceful, praying look. To match up to the clay model I made several months ago was quite changeling from half scale to full scale, onto wood. Here are a few pictures showing some steps, Thank you for looking!!! ...
