Curly Fries Anyone?? My Dads Company. A Story.

Hi all. This is really not woodworking related, but I thought I would share with you guys the Frey History.. Well maybe in Curly Fry Technology.. Anyways I have created my father a youtube page for his company and what services he provides. Now that I’m older he is letting me have more freedom with his company, and letting me bring the future to his company. Those baby boomers can’t let go of the past…LOL… Your a freaking Hippie DAD : ) He’s always saying I’m a better business man then he is. I don’t think so, he’s been doing 100,000’s jobs. since 1985. Me NOOOO. Not let anyways. Anyways my Dad and Grandad started FREY TURBODYNAMICS LTD. in 1985. Portland, OR. USA. My Grandfather was a mechanical /design Engineer, rest his soul. He passed away on Sept 11 2012. My father is a mechanical Engineer. With both those brains they were on a constant high to invent and create. Food processing got into the picture.. Still don’t know how that happened. Anyways in 1990 they were contacted by a company called….. Classified… At the time about 6 companies were competing to create the mass production curly fry machine. My dad told me how secretive it was. He told me all drawings had to be sent in a classified envelope with break seal. Not once could my father contact through the phone. All inquires and talks had to be person to person… My father said the last time he dealt with such a secret project, was when he was in the Army Core of Engineers and was working on a nuclear sub somewhere in the Navade desert. Anyways after 2 years passed the product was done. The Water Turbine Curly Fry machine was born, and my fathers machines were serving the public curly fires. CHINA DON’T YOU THINK ABOUT TAKING THIS IDEA. THIS BABY WILL ALWAYS BE AMERICAN MADE…! The curly fries you get at ARBY’S and HARDIES, and even curly fries in England and Down Under AU are made by his machines. Anyways if you got a second check out the link to the youtube page. Also theres a video attached about FREY TURBODYNAMICS LTD.

Why have I made woodworking a profession?

Cabinet Repair. FREY WOODWORKING INC.

Hi there. This was a cabinet repair project I was hired to do… The repair took me about a day to do. This cabinet was dropped durning the clients move. Got pretty beat up. No problem, FREY WOODWORKING INC. is always up to the task. Pretty much this was a basic repair. Needed to pull any pieces that had come apart, and glue them back together. I got lucky on this job that there was no broken pieces. Just needed to be glued and nailed. After all the repairs were done I decided to do some finish touch up.. The little things always go far. The stain I used for touch up, was “special walnut” hit the jackpot. The Video tells the story.. I hope you all enjoy. Everyone at LJ ’s have a great weekend.

Hi there. This was a drawer repair project I was hired to do. The side was all rotting out.. Also the drawer needed a new bottom. This project took about a half a day.. I start work at 5:30 am to 12:00 pm.. You do the math. Anyways this was a pretty straight forward repair. First time doing bandsaw dovetails. I could not get the PC dovetail jig to match the original. oh well, thats why i’m a woodworker. I IMPROVISE, ADAPT and OVERCOME.. HOORA!! for you marines out there. I glued and nailed the new dovetail to the drawer front. The video shows the project story.. Hope you all enjoy.

Hi there. This was a bed project I was hired to do. This old bed needed to have an extra support system because it was going to be used with a box spring. Also the bed needed to be supported for weight. This design can hold 1,000 lbs now. Thats were my dads engineering skills came in. Not bad to be running a business with an engineer at your side. Thanks DAD !! Anyways it took us a day to complete this project. For the cross supports we used fir 2×4 and for the new sides supports we used fir 1×4 ripped down. The legs we bought at Lowes and were already turned. Kept the cost down.. Would of cost the client a lot, if I turned them. It was a fun project to do.. Put some cash in are pockets and a little in the bank. What else can you ask for.. Hope you all enjoy. The video shows the project story.

Hi there, I was hired to create a new bed base for this crib. The client wanted the fiber board replaced with solid wood. The client wanted to go with whitewood. It’s cheap, but its strength is more then enough for a baby. I ended up doing the replacement piece, and then the client decide to have me apply a finish on the whole crib. The client wanted an all natural finish, so she decided on Tung oil. It went on great and after 4 coats it was ready for pick up.. I have created this picture video for all of you to watch. I hope you all enjoy. I apologize if the video quality is not great. It will get better with more views. So everyone please take a look. Another hard day’s work at FREY WOODWORKING INC.

Hi all, hope you are all happy woodworkers. The weather is getting colder, and the leaves are falling. My stomach is aching for some Turkey…. Today’s post is of a Chair leg I was hired to repair for a client..This was a pretty basic repair. The designer of this chair was well, #$%$%. The chair leg is made up of two pieces. The portion of the leg that broke was a miter glue joint. No dowels, just face glued. Well the pressure of the person on the chair creates a wedging affect on the joint, and well it was its time to let go… Here come’s along FREY WOODWORKING INC. to fix the problem… I decided to use a biscuit and my favorite wood glue (it’s a secret, Titebond,, LOL…) to get the task done… Came out great. Heres a picture video I made to show my steps to repair the leg. Hope you all enjoy. Let me know what you think.
