Hi all, I just joined lumber Jocks and wanted introduce myself. My name is Michael and I’m 16 years of age and I have been doing woodworking for 3 years now, and I’M LOVING IT. My shop is located in the hills of portland OR. I don’t have a big shop but one that suites my needs. What is really cool is that my workshop once was my grandfathers. He gave it to me because of old age, but still comes in and checks the shop up. Most the tools were my grandfathers. Most of the tools range from 1940-1970. This year I have been lucky that people have noticed me and my woodworking talent. This means that I have been commisioned to do custom woodworking. This has been really great because the money I have made has gone towards new tools.
Here are just some pictures of shop and me in it and projects. (The pictures vary tool wise because of when they were taken.)

You have a great shop. You are very lucky to have so many tools at your age. I am kind of new to woodworking so I may be asking a dumb question…... what is “costume woodworking”?

Hi Micheal.
I’m four times your age and I still don’t have a shop that nice! ;)
You inherited more than a shop from grandad, you seem to have inherited his love of woodwork too. May it serve you well for many years.

This is a wonderful place and having another excellent woodworker like yourself, is good for all of us who are new to the craft.

Welcome to lumberjocks Michael. You not only have a great granddaddy but you have a great granddaddy of a shop there. You are already putting together some beautiful projects. I do like seeing that your grandfather not only imparted his tools but a consciousness of safety (well, except for the tablesaw surfing ;). Pictures of you wearing ear, eyes, face, and breathing protection helps remind us to be more safety conscious as well. With such a well equipped shop, a passion for the craft, and a good head on your shoulders, you will definitely go far.

Welcome to lumberjocks Michael. The pics of the shop are interesting. There is a lot of LJ’s here that also have a small shop, and get a lot of great projects made. This is a great place to be and to learn, as you will be sure to see. It’s great that your grandfather has passed something down to a younger person. It’s going to be something that you will cherish and love for the years to come. It also looks like your grandfather has taught you a big lesson about saftey also. Keep that up.
