For a cheap box store hand saw I was very surprised at how well it cut

For a cheap box store hand saw I was very surprised at how well it cut

I recently picked up a truck full of reclaimed barn wood that needed to be cleaned up and planed. I had a lot of thick boards and some long 10ft boards that were just to big or long to cut comfortably with my RAS. I figured it would be quickest and easiest to cut them with a handsaw. I was using one of my vintage Disston handsaws to do this until I hit a nail which really messed up my saw. Not wanting to risk damaging another one of my vintage saws I decided to just buy one of those new cheap...

I just checked Amazon.com and found that they have now dropped the price on this plane to 112.25 with free shipping included. I think this plane is well worth the sale price. The sides and sole are polished and looked nice but the black finish job on the plane was done poorly. Not only did the finish look poor it has also started to chip off on a couple areas of my plane. I have only used my plane a handful of times and the black finish has all ready chipped a little on the front toe part an...

For the past couple years I have been sharpening my tools using the Scary Sharp method. To grind a new bevel on a plane iron or chisel I would use a grit anywhere from 80-120 grit sheets. The paper cuts fast but it also wears fast. Another problem with the paper is it clogged up quickly. With all the irons that I sharpen I was just going through a ton of paper so I started looking into coarse diamond stones. DMT sell two different types of bench stones. They have the DiaSharp which are a s...

Last week we got hit with a huge snow storm which covered my driveway with a lot of snow. I had to leave for work next morning and didn’t have time to shovel. I was able to get my front wheel drive car out of the driveway without getting stuck. The tires spun out a bit and the back fishtailed a little but after a little effort the car made it out. Later I took my full size 4×4 truck out and it plowed right through the thick snow with ease. No slipping, no spinning and the exit driv...

Angle reader/finder

I recently learned how to sharpen my own chisels and plane irons. I was having a hard time when it came to all the different bevels. I bought a cheaper honing jig that works well but it does not measure the angle I am honing. I tried using a protractor and had some success but I still felt I was off. I was looking at Rockler tools online and saw this item was on sale. It had good reviews and the price seemed good so I ordered it. The item arrived ready to use. There were no complicated ...
