My brother asked me for a design for an arbor to build as a surprise for his mother-in-law. I zipped this out in a few minutes as kind of a seat of the pants thing. Don’t know if it’s any good but I thought I’d share.
FWIW, I used a fairly wide field of view and Two Point Perspective for this. Does it look like the posts are farther apart at the top than at the bottom? Not supposed to.

yeah, this perspective does give the optical illusion that the sides are flaring out towards to top. but very mild, and all in all, it looks good. I wouldn’t worry about it too much , esp. if you couple it up with a few more shots from other angles.

Might be my eyes, but it looks like the side are squared up pretty good. Ten minutes huh? Take me ten hours to do that! Looks great Dave. Like the dowels in the side. Gives it a look of elegance.

Thanks guys.
Dowels? Nuts! They were supposed to look like copper pipe.
Rick, I think it’s a lot easier when you’re making it up as you go along.

Anymore time spent on design, if your like me, it would be over engineered. Nice, thanks for the ideas.

Nice one Dave….I suppose this version is sans joinery?..based on the quickness of the design time. The two point does give the columns a little flare at the top but it still looks good.

Thanks Mr. Wally. Or may I call you “Willy?”
David, well, there’s no joinery in the pergola but I did ‘drill’ the holes for the pipes. I don’t know why I did that since this was only to be a concept drawing for my brother. I could have skipped the holes I guess. Thank you.
I think I’ll print this thing out and run my parallel rules on it just for fun.
