This one’s doable. I’ll have to do this on my main PC and not the laptop.

Dave,
Very interesting design…
I do, however, think I see a flaw in the desired purpose of the Fruit Bowl…
I think one of the main things required is that there be good circulation around as much fruit as possible.
The squares in your bowl are flat on the bottom; therefore, not allowing any circulation in all of the bottom cavities.
If there were a Dado Slot (or half-moon curve) cut in the middle of each bottom square side, it would provide the ciculation desired.
Yes?
Other than that, I think you have a very unique Fruit Bowl… Maybe I’ll make one of those… out of some scrap build-up!
Good idea! Thank you!

Joe, you are correct, there should be space underneath for air to circulate. I was only concerned with the top surface when I drew it, however. The bottom would be similar.

Dave your design on sketchup looks fantastic. I need to spend more time using it.

Not the same scale and exact shape, but the best I could do.
I’m very certain David has the excelling method.

You guys are so far out of my league on the SketchUp thing, I feel like a caveman. But, I’m plugging away.
(My fruit bowl looks like it got hit by a truck….a BIG truck!)
Thanks for sharing your talents Dave.

Hold on, I’m still trying to draw the square grid…...lol
Did you use the soap skin bubble plugin for this?

This is really cool. Do you think you could design some sort of trippy living room with this software? I’d love to see it applied to architecture.

I pushed the ball down to far but you get the idea:

Innovator, thank you.
Don, pretty good.
Eric, there’s nothing wrong with that. You’ve just come up with a new design. :)
Bently, I’ll wait for you to catch up. LOL. You’re very close. ;)
Air Tool—Not sure if you’re funning me or not. If not, SketchUp was originally designed to be an easy to use application for architects to use as a digital version of sketching on a napkin.
Greg, close. Good job. I didn’t use a ball when I did it but that’s an interesting approach.

A reconsideration of my approach with no “ball”.
This was much easier.

Good, Don. How’d you do it?
FWIW, the board of the recess on mine is not a circle. Notice the corners on the top view.

The grid was made flat and and the parts that crossed were integrated with the others. the intersection lines were erased so the whole grid could be Push/Pulled at once.
Then, using an extrusion template and Follow Me, the shape for the depression was created.
The grid was then Pushed up even with the depression shape and then all the shapes were intersected.
Erasing the central parts resulted in the final shape of my model.

OK, TaaDaaaa.
My third and final rendition.

And now,
David, are you going to tell us how YOU did it?

Nope!
Just kidding. I will work up a thing to show how I did it.
Yours looks pretty good.

Not bad Waid. Not bad. Did you use a circular shape for the border of the recess?

I drew an arc from one corner to the other and just guessed at how far I wanted the center of the arc to pull down. Then I drew a circle centered on the arc and did the follow me. After that it was all that paste in place and intersect selected stuff you showed me. Then tons of deleting. If I drew a sphere and tried placing it then I had trouble getting it the right size I wanted.

I can get the grid but I don’t know how to push down the center into a bowl shape. I am axiously awaiting the instructions from DaveR.
