I'm a biomed by trade. I take care of anesthesia and respiratory equipment for the largest medical facility in Minnesota. For fun I like to build wooden boats, do other woodworking, sail our sailboat when the water isn't too hard.
Seems like a large part of my time outside of work has been spent tutoring others in using SketchUp for woodworking. That and drawing for clients.

Not so much a SketchUp related blog, this. Of course the drawing is a quick doodle done in SketchUp. I learned of a book that might be of interest here. It’s called How to Build Modern Furniture 53 by Mario Dal Fabbro. I’ve only...

By the way, the image above, except for being cropped in Picasa, was done entirely within SketchUp. Since we haven’t had a challenge lately, can anyone describe the process?

Dave,
Let me welcome you to LJs. I hope that you will find this to be an exciting and rewarding part of your woodworking adventure.

Thank you all for the nice welcome. I’m amazed you’ve all taken time to welcome me.
Looks like there’s a lot to see here. It’ll probably take awhile to find my way around. I will be hunting around when I get some time away from SU.
Cheers,
Dave

Welcome Dave! You have found the right place for woodworking. A great group of people willing to help. Looking forward to see your projects (boats) and comments. Taking care of anesthesia and respiratory equipment is a big responsibility and I would think that a job like that could cause some stress. So, woodworking should help release some of that stress. Have fun and work safe.

I have refurbished a boat before. It was one of the longest projects I have ever taken on. After I was done, I didn’t want to put it in the water. Love to see some of your boats.

DaveR, Profence… I sail a Cape Dory 30, my son and I built a 16’ crabbing skiff with my son that made it to the pages of Woodenboat Magazine, I have a 13.5’ Whirlwind… mahogany made in Cockeysville, MD and an aluminum canoe. I’ll have to get some digital pictures if you are interested.
