I have been in the construction industry for over 35 years. From the caisons to the shingles on the roof, I have pretty much built it all. I consider myself a pretty fair carpenter, but certainly not a woodworker. Last fall the wife and I took in the AWFS show in Las Vegas. I saw a man make an ink pen out of a scrap of wood, another man make a cowboy hat out of a block of wood........the list goes on and on. No sir.....I am no woodworker. But I have got the bug. As I look about the pages of the men, women and even children here on Lumberjocks, I am in awe of your talents. Your work is beautiful. I hope that one day I may actually make something worthy of posting upon these pages.

Being now retired, I have started the process of clearing 30 years worth of construction equipment from my garage and replacing it with woodworking equipment. The first time I ran a board across the new jointer I was thrilled. Up until recenty most of my work has been done with a worm drive skil saw and a framing hammer. And never had I held in my hand a truly straight and flat board.

The possibilities are endless. With eager anticipation I shall approach familiar materials with unfamiliar tools and virtualy no skill at using them. The results will likely be comical at first, but I shall cherish the experience. Perhaps someday I will be able to say I am a woodworker.

-- With God's help all things are possible- even woodworking. Woodworking is not just a hobby, it is an (expletive deleted) expensive hobby.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless

Welcome to LJ! It is the best gathering of woodworkers anywhere.

I read your story and can somewhat relate to it. I got my start as a small remodeling contractor. Fortunately my path took me into woodworking early and I have been loving it. It feeds my spirit in a way that remodeling can’t even compare to.

I look forward to watching you make your journey in this wonderful hobby.

Welcome!
