RIP Little Buddy

This probably isn’t the proper place to post this but I didn’t feel it belonged in the non shop talk forum with all the political BS.

My little buddy Max, the long eared guy on my lap in my avatar, passed from this life about 1:30 am CST. Max had suffered a stroke in late October and had been in declining health since then. Late last night he suffered a series of 5 massive seizures, the last in the parking lot of the Emergency Vets office at 12:30 this morning. The vet stabilized him with a valium IV but knowing what he’s been going through the past few weeks my wife and I finally came to the realization that it was time to let him go. Max wasn’t really what you would call a shop dog but he was my walking buddy 5 days a week and the best little buddy I’ve ever had. He will be sorely missed.

State Fair Success

I decided to take the plunge and enter 3 of my turnings in the State Fair last month. Imagine my surprise when I won a ribbon for all 3 entries, including one Best of Show.

Since I’ve been turning bowls for less than two years I was able to enter both bowls in the novice class, winning a first place and Best of Show with my myrtle burl bowl.

And a second place with one of my plywood bowls.

I also won with this Big Ben click pen with Bethleham Olivewood. This pen was entered in the advanced spindle turning class since I’ve been turning pens for about 3 years now.

I never expected these pieces to do this well. Needless to say, I’m pleased and a bit proud of the recognition. These are all keepers. I just need to find a way to disply them now. I guess that’s going to be another woodworking project.

Third Anniversary

I believe my third anniversary on Lumberjocks is coming up tomorrow. I’ll be out of town for a few days so thought I’d post today. I continue to check the site several times daily and still very much enjoy everyones projects, blogs, etc! I think there were just under 5,000 members when I joined 3 years ago. My, how we’ve grown. I think I’ll hang around. Thanks to all for a great continuing journey through woodworking.

Another 1 year Anniversary

I stumbled onto, and joined, Lumberjocks one year ago today. It’s been a great place to hang out several times a day and see what’s going on in the woodworking community. I enjoy the projects, tool reviews and the forums and all the banter that goes on between the jocks on many different subjects. My year here has been rewarding in that I’ve learned many things, gotten many ideas for future projects, and ideas on how to make current in-the-pipeline projects better. Many of you have become as familiar to me as did the co-workers I used to work with at the factory. This truly is a great place and I’m glad to have been a part of it for the past year and, hopefully, for years to come. While I haven’t posted a project in awhile I’m currently working on a TV stand for the BOSS’S new 47” flat screen tv. It’s 48” wide by 36” high with 4 bays for components above two sections with 3 drawers each for DVD storage. The BOSS wants raised panel doors on this thing, something I haven’t done before. The good thing is she allowed me to purchase a router bit set for the rails and stiles and a bit for the raised panel. Of course, she has other projects in mind to use those bits on so they aren’t a one project wonder. Anyway, I’m ready to start the doors today and with luck and a break in the heat I hope to have this thing done in a few weeks. Thanks to all Lumberjocks for a great first year.
