Which WELCOME tile looks best in the Quartersawn White OAK FRAME ?

Inprocess photos … two tiles to choose from.

frame is 4/4 quartersawn white oak. dyed, stained and seedlac … still needs a little work.

Which tile looks best in the frame ?

Photos are taken in my shop, on my table saw, covered with a burlap furniture blanket, under a 48 inch fluorescent light.

I like A. The elephant skin has great potential.

This is like an eye test. Which is better? A or B?...A oooooorrrrr B?

I would say A – not sure why, but perhaps because the tone matches the wood frame.

I like A best. That warm coppery finish looks better with your A&C finish.

A for sure. B looks too smooth & even toned. B may look teriffic in a frame with more texture

Well, I prefer the bluer tones of the lower tile. I like the contrast between complimentary colors of yellow and blue. However, both look exceptional. The elephant skin is interesting.

wow! Everyone is going with A. I think B is much better for the contrast. A is too close to the frame color.

I like the lower tile – it has more contrastimpact against the frame. Try the upper tile against an unstained frame – I think it would have a bigger impact.

I like the texture of the elephant skin tile, but or insetting into a frame, I would like to see a cleaner joint line or the tile made in 1 piece

I can’t really be desive on this they both have good points and there are reasons, as has been pointed out. the elephant skin is really a keeper, i trust we will see more of in your future work.

A it is !

I have been entertaining myself with textures on the surface of the tiles. FIRED Ground glass looks cool … kind of like a sand casting defect seen in a foundry…..uniquePhotobucket

I’m also experimenting on a triptych with same tiles as above, but with fired ground glass textures. It is still in process.

I plan on continuing the elephant skin process. It a little better then expected. Only problem is if you look real close to the surface of the tiles, you might guess might my NEW invention.
