Inprocess photos … two tiles to choose from.
frame is 4/4 quartersawn white oak. dyed, stained and seedlac … still needs a little work.
Which tile looks best in the frame ?
Photos are taken in my shop, on my table saw, covered with a burlap furniture blanket, under a 48 inch fluorescent light.
just because …. here is a set of experimental “elephant skin” tiles …
11 22 2008 Went with the darker one …. B

I like A. The elephant skin has great potential.

This is like an eye test. Which is better? A or B?...A oooooorrrrr B?
I would say A – not sure why, but perhaps because the tone matches the wood frame.

I like A best. That warm coppery finish looks better with your A&C finish.

A for sure. B looks too smooth & even toned. B may look teriffic in a frame with more texture

Well, I prefer the bluer tones of the lower tile. I like the contrast between complimentary colors of yellow and blue. However, both look exceptional. The elephant skin is interesting.

New Zealand Steve… that cracked me up… started laughing out loud at the computer….
Dan, I gotta go with A… it’s got a warm feel to it.

wow! Everyone is going with A. I think B is much better for the contrast. A is too close to the frame color.

I’m voting “A”, though I can appreciate the comments about contrast.

I like the lower tile – it has more contrastimpact against the frame. Try the upper tile against an unstained frame – I think it would have a bigger impact.
I like the texture of the elephant skin tile, but or insetting into a frame, I would like to see a cleaner joint line or the tile made in 1 piece

A it is !
I have been entertaining myself with textures on the surface of the tiles. FIRED Ground glass looks cool … kind of like a sand casting defect seen in a foundry…..unique
I’m also experimenting on a triptych with same tiles as above, but with fired ground glass textures. It is still in process.
I plan on continuing the elephant skin process. It a little better then expected. Only problem is if you look real close to the surface of the tiles, you might guess might my NEW invention.
