The texture on the back of the scarab is made with ground glass impregnated into the wet clay and then fired to around 2000 degrees. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Excellent work! You definitely have an eye for these, and the ability to make your vision a reality. My personal favorite is the wind-swept trees one. Love the layered frames on all of them.

Very nice. Do you design these ahead of time or just work it out as you go?

Hi Dan;

Your creativity never ceases to amaze me.

I don’t know how you manage to come up with so many ideas.

Beautiful work.

My brother is an entomologist for the USMD (aka in our family the true bug doctor) he’d enjoy that bettle. Nice projects.

John
these style frames are made from quartersawn oak shorts and offcuts. I build as I go, trying to mix the thicknesses and widths. I build one layer at a time. Each strip run thru the table saw and drum sander…. I use a lot of quartersawn white oak and save up lots of odds and ends. After making six of this style frame -still have too much !

Dan, Wonderful, they are so full of creativity, I just want to stare at them, kind of drink them in. I like the scarab, but the wind blown tree is awesome. The frames blow me away. Man, they must weigh a ton..Beautiful in a word.

Thanks everyone … I’m building crates for these today. Sold all three to the same buyer. Artists always sell their best work. .... happy these are all going to the same collection.
