This process went pretty quick.
I started at 6pm and now it is 10:30.
Includes all the photo editing and the whole nine yards.
added bronze coating and let dry about an hour. used the stuff on far right.

bronzed 6 panel

patina acid materials

panel after 15 minutes of acid soak

panel after 2 hours … ready to get started

beartex -............... rub really-really hard, long-long time

after beartex rubbing

clean off surface with brush and spray on several coats of gloss lacquer

let dry with fan blowing on it
spray coat of matte varnish
done !!

cool little detail

the tiles ....

Frame is not started yet.
Did measure all the tiles. 5.25 wide x 10.5 tall.
Thinking of greene and greene design, but never know where it will end up
Will post the sketchup design in another blog,

Thanks everyone !
Very fun project so far !
I’m on my third kiln load with two more to follow. 70 tiles in all. All hapes and sizes. I’m bronzing a frog tile, castle tile, scarab tile and two landscapes. Will post them as fully bronzed pieces. I’m still looking for the mahogany carvings that belong to them. They’re around here somewhere.

Welcome tile I have for sale on ebay. Used patina finish same as above, but used shoe polish and a heat gun on top of the bronze patina prior to lacquer. Also used shellac before the lacquer….
Will post the wood carving projects, when I get it cleaned up.

Dan,
Not to veer lightly into profanity on LJ but I will paraphrase what Ahmet Ertegün said upon meeting Ray Charles.
“You know, you are the sh*t.”
I believe that was meant in the most highly complimentary way, the same way I intend it to be taken. Bravo.

These are the photos of the six panel in the frame … sanded to 120.
Also a woven wood technique I noticed in the 36 panel door project today.
Hope to add a coat of finish before I go to bed.

Thank you for all these examples and the beautiful works. I was going to make a similar post to Doug’s above but will just get along with a big “ditto” to his post. Very inspiring. Makes me want to be back in art school.

weekend work …....another version of the bronze finish. This one is green with ground glass used to texture the clay.
glass is pressed into wet clay tile in the mold. then fired to around 2000 degrees
..
frame is quartersawn white and walnut. Glued and un-sanded…. used the famous vinager -steel wool mix and a tiny artist brush to paint into the corners. Will sand and feather back the the black color. The dye and stain etc.
