Forgot how messy a router is.
Mahogany machines like butter.
Photos are the project with one section roughed in … deepest section … about 3/8 depth using 1/2 router bit.
A section with the poster glued on and the tools I’m using, less the dust collector.
As mentioned in Marc’s blog … Bought a 1/8 down spiral do some detail work.
One thing I didn’t plan for was the paper wants to lift up next to the router bit. My work around is scoring the drawing with a xacto blade. Will try a different glue next time.

Learning a new router technique.
Haven’t had a plunge router long.
Set the depth and chop-chop-chop
up and down … up and down
nibbling up to the line.
Not so hard on the paper and easier to see what I’m doing.

Progress we can all see.I like your approach Dan…very logical.I kinda like the colored layout.This would probably be where I stopped and just built a frame around it. :-) Seriously,I am rooting for you to finish this and post the final work for us all to enjoy.Keep chipping away.

This project will take a while. I’m almost done with the router and getting started with carving tools. Figure I’ll have another 40 hours in the carving before I’m happy with it. I have a real job, so it will take a few weeks. In the mean time I have another commission job to complete and need to get some items ready for the ebay christmas season.
Photo of commision piece. Nine inch square ROOKWOOD griffin tile.
Tried to design a frame to match the gothic / moorish arts and crafts theme of the tile.

About 6 years ago in Memphis, my wife and I made a batch run of frames. Peggy helped with the sanding and finishing, staining etc. We made a big pile. About 20 frames. I had fired over a dozenl tiles and mounted and sold most of them on ebay.
We still have 3 left over from that run of frames.
We have moved them 2 times since then.(Memphis to McMinnville to Middletown) This Christmas will be the time to sell them on ebay.
I have a few three inch Grueby tiles on hand and with sketchup, figured to design a Frank Lloyd Wright lattice work setting to fit in the frame and mount the tile. Will post finished frame in projects when complete.

finished the griffin frame and it is ready to ship. I do not have a photo with the tile installed.
Merridee didn’t ship the rookwood tile because of its rareity and didn’t want take a chance of getting it broken etc.
Should get a photo in the future hanging on the wall.
