Anyone have the Jessem Mite R Excel miter gauge? - 0 replies Ordered one of these from Tool King via Amazon & received it yesterday. I am a bit troubled by the function of the locator pins, and thought perhaps someone who has one of these could clarify their operation. With the large pin in the center hole, and the small pin in the “0” hole, there is still quite a bit of slop, at least ... |

Anyone familiar with Woodstock mortiser being sold by Grizzly? - 6 replies Been pricing mortisers, this one at Grizzly seems to really offer a lot for the $$$. I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with it: T20836 Heavy Duty Mortising Machine with Stand |

Old woodworking machine info site - 2 replies Found this site while researching an old Atlas disk/belt sander I saw on Craig’s list. It’s called, appropriately enough, “Old Woodworking Machines”. They actually have a free DL of the manual for this sander, as well as for a lot of other equipment. Anyone interested in such equipment should check it out. Dan |

Bandsaw blades - 8 replies Recently got a Grizzly 14” bandsaw. The OEM blade seems kinda crappy, so I’m looking at replacing it with a couple others. I’d like to be able to do everything from curves of a radius about the size of a quarter, to resawing. I’m a bit unclear about TPI’s, tooth shape, etc. I’m thinking I’ll get a ... |

Using a Bosch router with a PC 4212 dovetail jig - 4 replies I was recently given a PC 4212 DT jig as a birthday gift (yeah!) and am looking at routers to use with it. I have an older Hitachi M12V, but I use the beast in a router table I recently built. Leaning toward the Bosch 1617EVSPK combo router for all my out-of-table needs. I’ve never used a DT jig; I’m basically familiar with how th... |

Grinding wheel runout - 7 replies Bought a Woodcraft 8 inch low speed bench grinder for sharpening purposes. Comes with 60 & 120 grit white/friable wheels. 1st thing I notice is the right (fine) wheel has what seems like quite a bit of edge runout (wobble) on the broad side face of the wheel, about 3/64” from the look of it. Tried taking the wheel off & checking... |

Router table: How big is big enough? - 9 replies Planning to build a router table for my Hitachi M12V. I have a glue up for the top, 24×30 x 1.5. I see many (or at least SOME) commercial tables are smaller than this. If nothing else, a smaller table would take up less space. Is there any real advantage to a bigger table on one of these, like with a wider/longer jointer, wider planer, ... |

Shop air cleaner - 16 replies I’m looking for recommendations for a shop air cleaner. The Grizzly G9956 looks effective, and on sale for $299. Lotta $$$ for something that doesn’t actually MAKE sawdust, but I guess if you can’t BREATHE, well you know… Thanks for any thoughts Dan |

This is what drives me NUTS (uneven TS rip cut) - 21 replies I’ve just ripped a ~3” x 48” board in half. I VERY CAREFULLY marked the EXACT center of the leading edge of the cut with a fine pencil line, and VERY CAREFULLY centered that line visually in the middle of the saw blade teeth when positioning the rip fence. Set up seemed PERFECT. Ripped the board, one half is more the 1/32 wi... |

Bench grinder size? - 6 replies I’m thinking of buying a bench grinder for my woodshop, mostly for general sharpening in conjunction with stones, sandpaper, etc. Is there any reason to prefer an 6” or an 8” for these tasks? TIA Dan |

Tapering legs on a jointer - 4 replies Made a small end table, one of my 1st “real” projects, and I came across a technique for tapering legs using a jointer. No doubt old hat for some of you guys, but it was new to me! While I admit it frightened me a bit a 1st, it proved to be very accurate, quick & effective, and it left a very smooth surface. To me it’s e... |

Graph paper PDF generator - 11 replies I’ve used this site from time to time, generates a PDF of graph paper in standard paper sizes, with variable line weight, lines/inch/centimeter, border size, etc. Handy for drawings, thought maybe some might find it useful. Graph paper generator Dan |

Need a cheap framing nailer - 9 replies I’m doing some framing & siding work/repairs on a house we bought about a year ago & I sure would like to get a reasonably priced framing nailer. I was looking at THIS ONE at Harbor freight. 99 bucks, plus I have a 15% off coupon, making it $84. I’m sure it wouldn’t stand up to daily commercial use, but for the price... |

Murphy's Laws of Computing - 5 replies 1. When computing, whatever happens, behave as though you meant it to happen. 2. When you get to the point where you really understand your computer, it’s probably obsolete. 3. The first place to look for information is in the section of the manual where you’d least expect to find it. 4. When the going gets tough, upgrade. ... |

Anyone have a PowerMatic 60B 8" jointer? - 8 replies After much saving & deliberating, I have one of these on order. I want to have a mobile base set up for it when it arrives (so it will feel nice & welcome in its new home… ;-) I have one of those Rockler base kits BASE for which you cut 2” hardwood framing members. If anyone has one of these jointers, can you tell me the d... |

Snipe & new Dewalt 734 planer - 10 replies After much deliberation & consultation, I bought my 1st planer, a Dewalt 734. My 1st test passes through it have been less than spectacular. Running some fairly straight/flat pine scrap through the machine, pieces sized 18.5×2.75 x .875, I’m getting what I’m thinking is a significant amount of snipe, as in this pic: LINK= . ... |
