I haven’t blogged in quite a while but I do visit the site pretty regularly. It seems that everything one does requires a really steep learning curve. I’m the kind of guy that just wants to go do things. Of course, I know that if it was easy, there would be no pride of accomplishment.

Lately, I haven’t been able to get to the shop as often as I would like but I am hell bent on building some nice small decorative boxes.

I go up to the shop. decide what I am going to do and work on the project until I get frustrated and then go back the next time and start over or at least from my last successful endeaver.

I WILL BE A COMPETENT WOODWORKER SOME DAY. It’s tht simple. Have ony of the rest of you gone through thsi sam frustration. I wonder how many people have just given up.

I’ve been a guitar play for 44 years and I have reached a certain level of competency in that area and that happened by repeated efforts. Is it possible that some people should just never get the hang of it?
Should I sell my shop tools and take up Knitting? I plan on being back in the shop on Saturday and Sunday. We’ll see what happens.

Oh oh, This didn’t go where I thought I was going when I started.

Sorry,

Some people have been giving me small logs for a while now. Every time someone calls and asks if I want some I say “sure.” I have a client who works for a company that cuts down trees around power lines and he brings me some almost every week. Due to some other circumstances, I won’t be getting an more so I thought I would go up to the shop and stack the logs. I do have an oak tree down elsewhere on the property that I need to cut up into manageable pieces and transport them to the shop.

The stack is made up of cypress, cedar, pecan, and cherry, I’m looking forward to getting this wood to my bandsaw but it will take a while. The logs are anywhere from 2 ft. to 4 ft. and the stack is about 4 1/2 ft. tall.

Starting again

It seems like I have been getting my shop ready forever. I’ve completed a few minor projects and started a few that are not finished. I started with the ntention of building guitars (and still intend to) but i have been more and more interested in building decorative boxes and clocks. You can’t work on the shop forever. I do need to run some new electrical circuits and eleminate some extension cords.
DaleR

So in trying to fix my earlier mistake and starting my blog entries again, I wanted to thank everyone who welcomed me and offered comments.

I know that my shop will always be an ongoing project but I have a 24’ X 36’ shop that sits about 100 yards from the house. I just want toi make something that isn’t part of the shop. For now, that will be an assortment of boxes
