Building a Tablesaw Base Part 2

Well I finally finished the Tablesaw Base, trying to film during rain storms is almost impossible with the ambient noise from the rain hitting the metal roof.. but I waited it out, and am very happy with the outcome.. Here is a look at the final steps of building this base

As I said in the project post…. In 1969 a group call King Crimson recorded an album called Court of the Crimson King. This box is named after the title track. As well as the King himself there are several other characters in the song including; the Purple Piper, the Yellow Jester and the Black Queen. I have been struggling for many years to design a box which features all of these. Michelletwo came up with the inspiration in her Color project post. The slots in this form are ideal...

I’ve got everything i need to make a first hole. I used some video here, advertisings are not mine, they are part of blip.tv – video hosting web site, sorry… I have some liquid grip leftover, so I used it on the chuck instead of double side tape.!!Aligning the radius turning jig.Setting the other axis .!!Visual inspection.Measuring the depth bit has to dive in..!!Making first hole..Hole made on the end grain side of the ball.Close look.Two holes.I did not do any sandin...

After glueing in the medallion, I went ahead and sanded it flush with the lid. I did this to be sure it looked ok. I was worried about chipped out areas below the rim showing up after the sanding and it would be much easier to replace the panel at this stage before the entire box was shaped. It would make aligning the jig for recutting the recess less of a nightmare. But it looked fine. The handle is a piece of cut off from the Maple medallion. I simply slotted a mortise in it and the lid ...

Though this has started from a new design THE POINT TO POINT and furthermore, I started building up the box. I am new to this veneering work. I am enjoying this. Maybe I can now realize some of my designs that really requires a lot of precision cutting. Using knife on straight cutting is not new to me. My father taught me a lot of techniques in cutting straight lines with paper. He had a bookbinding equipment that we normally cut the papers using a big knife which is specially sharpen...
