Okay, we probably have all spent more on a project because we miss cut a piece of wood, or changed our mind about the finish and started over.
Well this week I ran into a rather unexpected (though somehow I doubt unique) “cost overrun”.
I damaged my washing machine with various items that I had failed to empty out of my grubby shop pants (an old pair of cargo-pocketed jeans). The washer started making a very nasty grinding noise one night this past week. When I investigated the cause of the noise (which required removing – and thus breaking the connecting tabs – of one of the baffles) I discovered 1×6” steel ruler, 1x stubby pencil, about 4x screws, a couple of nails, etc rolling around between the inner and outer drums and in the sump. The cost came in purchasing a new baffle.
I wonder how many other of my fellow LJs have had other woodworking “cost overruns”.

I have had the same thing happen to me, only i left screws in my pockets and they got stuck in the dryer and it tore the felt drum bearings out. It cost me a new dryer and my wife will not let me forget it.

My wife broke me of leaving stuff in my pockets.
When we got married we made a deal…. either I clean out my pockets and unroll my shirt sleeves or she gets to keep everything she finds in the washer and dryer.
I left a roll of 12 $100 bills in my pants pocket once.

My biggest problem is we will get dressed to go somewhere. I will run out to the shop just to put that one more coat of finish and you can guess what happens then.
Dallas I tell my wife she can keep what she finds in the washer. She might get a quarter a dime. I am a cheep skate. I am so tight I squeak when I walk.
My pocket knives and lighter are clean.

When I built the first arcade machine my buddy and I were staining the carcass. I had just told him to not knock off the can of stain because it was on a sawhorse. No sooner than I said that I knocked nearly the whole quart on him instantly changing the color of his shirt, shorts, socks shoes and skin on one side.

dats funny. I usually leave my a floss-pic in a pocket somewhere. it doesn’t do any damage, but, the wifee reminds me always: hey moron, empty yer pockets

Just finished cleaning my IPOD ear phones. At least I didn’t leave the IPOD in the pocket! You’s think she would check for those things!!LOL
