I just made a new addition to my shop I up graded my jointer. My old one is a 4” craftsman that was my Dad’s it is almost as old as I am, I think that the only reason I didn’t up grade sooner is because it was my Dad’s, but I final gave in and started looking on CL. after about a month of calling on jointers that I was interested in and being told “sorry I just sold it”, it happend I answered an add for a powermatic 6” long bed model 54A for $650.00 after doing a quick web search to see if it was worth the $, I found that if it was in good shape (as the add claimed) it was a good deal. Fortunately it just 5 minutes away from were I work (what luck) so I jumped in the truck and went to take a look during my lunch hour. to my surprise it was all the add claimed and more it had not been use very much, it came with original manuals, tools and 2 unopened sets of knives that are standard with an new one. so I bought it for his asking price. It is now set up in my shop i just added a picture of it to my workshop page. I have used it several time and it works like a charm.

I used to own the Powermatic 54A, I think it is a great machine. For only being 6” wide it has a long bed which you will appreciate much.
Congrats on your find!

Dave, congratulations on your addition. I own this one too. I have had it for several years and only replaced the original knives within the last two weeks. You could have found less expensive jointers but I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for when it comes to tools.

You done good! Nice addition to your shop. This is the jointer I was going to order for my new shop but decided to go with the Jet 12” Planer/Jointer combo instead. It will give me two machines in the same amount of space. Good luck with your new toy, I think they are great machine.
God Bless
