Craftsman C3 19.2-Volt 4-Port Multi Chemistry Charger 17311

Craftsman C3 19.2-Volt 4-Port Multi Chemistry Charger 17311

02-09-2012 05:57 AM by David Grimes | 1 comment »

I’m a fan of the Craftsman C3 line of battery powered tools. I have more of them than Sears does lately. Some of the tools come with the battery and charger whether you need it or not. I had 7 Nicad Chargers and 1 Lithium Ion charger (and the same number of batteries). I only used two of the Nicad chargers and the one Lithium charger. The other four stayed in a drawer. I ran across this “4 door model” charger a few months ago. A LJ posted a charging station (nice, to...

Insulfoam Garage Door Insulation Kit

Insulfoam Garage Door Insulation Kit

02-09-2012 05:34 AM by David Grimes | 8 comments »

My three garage doors were not insulated. Never a problem until last year when I converted bay 3 into the Man Cave wood shop and started spending much time out here. I don’t even remember what the back porch looks like. My dogs miss me terribly. They bark at me before they remember me. I went to the BORG and the BBRG looking for garage door insulation whatever. They had some Owens Corning bag of flimsy, etc. No thanks. I called my garage door supplier/installer to see how much...

RT1000XL Router Table - Excellent Product

RT1000XL Router Table - Excellent Product

01-02-2012 10:29 AM by David Grimes | 14 comments »

I’ve had this table for almost a year, so for those of you yearning for a review where the tags aren’t still hanging, this is one of them. As you can see from my photos, I have added an MCLS Daisy Pin Router to it. The table does not come with the pin router. The only modifications I have made are adding 7” to the base to suit my height preference. I knew I was going to do this when ordered, so I told the builder to attach the wheels knowing that I would transfer them ...

PREVAL Portable Disposable Sprayer

PREVAL Portable Disposable Sprayer

12-15-2011 02:47 PM by David Grimes | 5 comments »

These sprayers are great. And inexpensive. The $6 spray gun comes with a glass jar and the power unit. They can spray paints including latex, auto paints, lacquers, acrylics, primers, etc. One power unit ($4 for extras) will easily spray 16 oz. of material… quite a bit for small and medium sized projects. The glass jar cleans easily for re-use. I’ve been using one of mine for lacquer and find the atomization just fine for dry or wet coats. I even thinned some brush on lac...

Ridgid EB4424 Oscillating Edge Belt / Spindle Sander

Ridgid EB4424 Oscillating Edge Belt / Spindle Sander

12-15-2011 02:21 PM by David Grimes | 16 comments »

These have been reviewed a bit by others, but I just want to add a resounding “This is a great tool” to the heap. Lumberjock YBNORMAL lives in the same town as I do, so when he told me his was great and gets lots of use I had to take the plunge. I found it still priced at $199 at the BORG. I snagged a Husky support table at the same time ($35) so that I could mount this sander to it and have it a floor model from day one. Very sturdy when joined and perfect height for me. ...

Rockwell RK9010 12 1/2" Portable Thickness Planer + stand (same as Grizzly G0505)

Rockwell RK9010 12 1/2" Portable Thickness Planer + stand (same as Grizzly G0505)

11-20-2011 08:35 AM by David Grimes | 11 comments »

First, much thanks to LJ member Roger Clark aka Rex for finding and sharing the deal. This is the Rockwell RK9010 planer that cost me only $204 shipped. It is identical in every way to the Grizzly G0505 (except the grizzly is green and has a bear on the front hood) that sells for $339 plus shipping and does NOT include the stand. The same package (unit + stand+ shipping) from Grizzly would cost me $393.70, so nearly half price. I also got to choose between orange and silver. I went...

Accu-Link Adjustable Link V-Belts (from Harbor Frei

Accu-Link Adjustable Link V-Belts (from Harbor Frei

10-18-2011 02:13 AM by David Grimes | 19 comments »

There are at least two common brands of link belts on the market: PowerTwist belts, manufactured by Fenner Drives, are red. Accu-Link belts, from Jason Industrial, are green. The Harbor Freight belts are the green Accu-links and the subject of this review. The regular price is $24.99 for a five foot piece ($5 per foot). I have the pleasure of being a Ridgid BS14002 bandsaw owner. Luckily, mine did not have the vibration issues that others have experienced. However, there was some mino...

Viking Re-Saw Blade 105" x 1/2" 3 TPI (Timberwolf)

Viking Re-Saw Blade 105" x 1/2" 3 TPI (Timberwolf)

10-17-2011 06:05 AM by David Grimes | 5 comments »

We all know that most of the time the blades that come with anything new are usually pretty sad. The blade that came with my Ridgid was not so bad at all. But as soon as I installed the Grizzly 6” riser block and the 105” blade they sent with it was when I found out what a bad saw blade was like… truly unusable. I began to search for a better blade. My intention was to obtain a 1/2” blade that can handle everyday chores, but could step up and do some nice re-sawin...

Review of the Ridgid Universal Digital Miter Gauge

Review of the Ridgid Universal Digital Miter Gauge

10-12-2011 09:07 AM by David Grimes | 19 comments »

This is the Ridgid Universal Digital Miter Gauge. Lets start with the Universal part. The miter slot bar has a clever lobed t-slot washer that quickly adjusts and locks to the width of any t-slot lower trough. If your miter track is just plain square, then it rotates and locks in flush. They even threw in an extra bar for the non-standard undersized slots that are used on many table top machines. I believe it is truly universal and well-designed. The head unit attaches to a fairly be...

Perfect Home 4 in. Industrial Casters (4-Pack) ... An Accidental Find

Perfect Home 4 in. Industrial Casters (4-Pack) ... An Accidental Find

10-02-2011 10:30 AM by David Grimes | 17 comments »

Previously, my other caster wheels I’ve used were ordered on-line from Rockler and I have been pleased. Friday, I wondered what casters were available locally (Lowe’s, Home depot, Ace, Tractor Supply, etc.). I used the internet to check out their line-ups, price and in-stock availability. I found pretty slim pickings. The few possibles I came across (as far as rating and size) were a ridiculous price each… and I needed twelve ! But, I came across these on the Ho...
