I pretty much ruled out small boxes, pens and cutting boards as something that interests me. Then I got a request, and had a piece of hardwood crown molding sitting around. What the hell ? A good excuse to use the pin nailer.

The box and bottom was a no-brainer. No jig required, just bedded right on the miter saw.

The rip from the crown to make the inverted edge of the lid was fun for about a minute.

The handle is four “returns” of base cap trim.

This is the BEFORE.

We’ll see how the rest of the little story goes.

You’re hooked now! You will never recover. Welcome to box builders anonymous. By the way, nice job on your first box.

Hey, Doc. If I ever do another one, I’m definitely going to be studying the integral hinges you and the shipwright make.

It will be awhile before I sand and finish this one.

Go for the hinges! You’ll never go back to store bought hardware.
