I am a 50+ software developer, and a perpetual beginner in woodworking. I grew up with the general basics around me -- as did most in the '60s and '70s -- garage shelving, maybe some bookshelves, 7th grade shop class, etc.

Got more interested in my college years ('80s), but tools were pretty expensive then and I let family priorities be an excuse for pushing it all back. [mumble] '90s and [mumble] [mumble] and here I am today.

I have a good collection of tools now, and few excuses remaining (on weekends, when the garage is above freezing), so I should be putting it all to use soon.

I feel my first chair, or at least tall stool, coming on any day now. (Once I build the lathe stand.)

I'm a hybrid worker. I'm a great fan of hand tools (especially in Mr. Underhill's hands), but I also have the arms of a cubical dweller. After trying to rip dry osage orange logs, I am not ashamed to use electricity to do the grunt work.

-- Really, the tree did the hard part.
