Too much? How about this? - 29 replies
I am nearing completion on this box for my mom’s friend. Waiting on some hinges I ordered. Here is my question. Is the the little bit of lacewood distracting or does it complement the medalian? The body of the box is rosewood and walnut. Please be honest, I do not need “nice comments”.Thanks

The old eyes aint what they use to be... - 17 replies
When I’m doing small, delicate work no matter how close I get to the work (my nose has a permanent red spot) I can’t seem to see clearly enough. I bought this from Woodcraft and found an immediate improvement. This is another tool I use frequently. What do you guys use to get up close and personal with your work?

Any ideas for these? - 27 replies
Just read a project post that used these as a bench vise. You guys have any other jigs/uses for these? Got them for free 10 years ago and have never used them.

Am I missing something? - 62 replies
There are hundreds (?) of plane enthusiasts on this site. About the only plane I use on almost every project is my Stanley block plane (G12-060) given to me by my father in law. It needed some work. Now, the sole is flat and the blade is sharp. I use it for fine shavings during fittings. Here’s my question. If the sole is absolutely ...

Who is this? - 12 replies
I monitor a combined feed of 5 or 6 different woodworking sites. I saw this picture but when I followed it back to it’s source (LJ’s) I got a page cannot be found. Does anyone know anything about the below picture? I love it.

I can't figure this one out... - 6 replies
When I view unanswered topics there are 90 pages of posts that someone needed help and did not get a response. However, at this writing there are 46 giggling responses to “I guess some cleaning is in order”.

As I was making lunch today... - 5 replies
I started thinking about lunches past. As I was putting some potato chips on my plate I remembered times long, long ago when I was young and poor and how my partner and I shared a bag of chips at lunch each day. He would never eat a chip that had a dark brown (burnt) spot on it. This was ok with me since that gave me a couple more at the end ...

Mass Graves - 4 replies
I think all mass burials must be accompanied by a bronze plaque stating the reason for the mass burial. This way archaeologists five hundred years from now won’t have to guess…

Small dowels from large dowels... - 4 replies
I remember seeing a video where a guy needed a dowel smaller than the dowel stock he had on hand. He took the dowel and ran it between his tablesaw blade and the fence. No jig, no setup, nothing but the blade and fence. At first everyone thought it was very unsafe but when thinking about it only the front of the blade made contact with the dow...

Does anyone wonder how stuff like this makes the news? Better yet I wonder about the mental state of the one coming to this type of conclusion. The king of dinosaurs — Tyrannosaurus rex — certainly was not designed to be a carnivore, according to Paul Taylor of Creation Today. The legendary Tyrannosaurus rex probably “ate people” and other di...

I’m sure it will be along the lines of it’s the government’s fault since they did not supply them with jobs or the incentive to be doing something more constructive than killing for fun. I wonder if Obama will claim to be just like them when he was a boy…

Show your equipment modifications. - 24 replies
My wife is getting a new car and it’s wider than the one that curently lives in my shop. To make room I shortened the stand for my mitersaw. I seldom if ever use the full width of the stand to cut wood so it is not much of a loss. I took 18” out of it. Anyway, here it is… It would be nice to see other equipment modif...

A/B Testing... - 11 replies
IMHO (which is typically correct) something good has come out of the “clique post”. I know there are numerous reviews of tools on this site but I have not seen a lot of tool testing comparisons. What I propose is to get a list of tools that we would like to have tested and then those folks that own multiple tools designed for the s...

My thoughts on US schooling (elementary)... - 24 replies
Reading – Everyone should be able to read. If not, we would be back in the middle ages with only our political leaders and the church translating for us. Reading cursive should be mandatory since most of our leaders and church officials are pretty flowery. We should also be taught how to read between the lines. Essential for living in t...

How do you store your clamps? - 68 replies
There are as many ways to store clamps as there are woodworkers. Youtube has many videos on how to build them. What method do you use? Please share with the rest of us. Pictured below is my method using a display rack from a department store I picked up for free. The rack has casters so I can roll them around for use and storage.

Drill Bits - 8 replies
About five years ago I bought a set of Freud forstner bits (set of 7) and have been very satisfied. They were expensive but they were recommended by a number of woodworking magazines. I use every bit except the 1 3/8” bit…maybe I used it a time or two but it still looks unused. I’ve had a couple of projects that have require...

Question Mark Tools - 20 replies
I’m sure we have all been faced with the dilemna of whether or not we should purchase a certain tool because we are not sure how often we would use it. After buying and using the tool we then come to find that we cannot do without it and wonder why we waited so long to buy one. The three tools pictured below I use during ever project I d...

Before and after... - 4 replies
The top picture is the piece of rosewood I was getting ready to plane, scrape, inlay and finish as a box top. BTW, I now secure both legs of the carpenter’s square to help keep it square. A few of you thought with only one leg secured there was the possibility of throwing the square out of square. I’m happy to report the square is s...
