no previous part Part 1 of Building my dream workshop from the ground up! series no next part

So let it begin! I’ve been given the ‘Go’ from the local county building office to get started on my Dream Shop! It’s a stand alone, double pitch roofed, 500 sq. ft, nothing but ‘Man Cave’, Woodworking Shop!!

My hope is to chronicle the entire process of building and outfitting this building. This last week we had the foundation trenches doug out and we are getting the concrete slab framing process started…

The building will have a concrete slab, but will also have an antique redwood 2×8 T&G floor installed over it. All the walls will have 1/2 prefinished maple ply. There will be 3 sky lights, 3 upper, ambient light windows, 14 220V outlets (2 in the floor), 20 110V outlets (2 in the floor too), an exterior closet that will house the 60 gallon compressor and the 1100 CFM dust collector, ‘lean to’ exterior wood storage, 2 400 gallon cisterns for water collection and, drum roll…. 4 kilowatt PV electrical system on the roof.

My plan is for the building this mostly by myself and be done within the year (2011).

Check back for more photos and ups and downs over the year. I encourage feed back in all phases…

Let’s build this thing!!

4kV PV on the roof! I am impressed with that. You planning on running the shop off grid? It is my long term dream…

I have my drool proof shirt on so let see some pictures of the progress of the man-cave
Color me green with envy, love to be building such a project for myself
On a side note there is a great garage website that has lots of these builds going on, you might want to peruse there for some inspiration or info

Good Luck with the build!!
