Ok I now am somewhat fluent in Sketch-up! Woo Hooo. It only took me getting horribly sick for two weeks. Came down with a cold October 11th, which turned into a horrible sinus infection on October 14th. My fever broke for good this past Saturday. I actually made use of my time though. Started out watching all the videos on skethupforwoodworkers.com and off I went.
It took me some trial and error, and using my wifes 17” laptop instead of my Netbook. The idea was mine but I wasn’t the first to have it. I used a few LJ members designs as a starting point, thanks to Blake, PurpLev, & SWM. But of course I always have to over engineer everything I design. My first real wood project I ever did was a deck about 8 years ago. I built a 30ft by 60ft deck that took up half our back yard and was sturdy enough to land a 747 on. So in that tradition I have the top made of a torsion box, supported by 3 28” cross sheets of 3/4” mdf and 2 half length 24” pieces of 5/8” mdf. I resisted the urge to add 2”x2” wood support columns on the 4 corners but I still believe I need them. Sadly this is the scaled down version, my first attempt was 48” long by 34” wide!
I am feeling much better and can’t wait to get started building this bad boy in the next 2 or 3 days!!!!
Picture doesn’t include Casters that will be installed.
