Clamps? Bessey, Jorgensen, Jet, nothing? - 6 replies Parallel clamps- I have been thinking of getting some because they look damn useful. I have checked out the Bessey clamps and did not like how they closed. I have been using a combination of quick clamps and pipe clamps and they work, but clamp and glue work can be a pain. I have read the reviews on this site and everyone likes all of these c... |

Help with a Kreg pocket hole system - 16 replies In advance, thank you for your help-I know how a pocket hole system works in theory… but not how they are actually used. This matters because I went ahead and, at a garage sale, picked up this: I have no idea if I am missing pieces or not. Clearly the previous owner mounted it to a table (the center part with the clamp and the two... |

Should I buy a Table Saw? Not which - 61 replies First off, this is not a “I am scared of a TS because it is dangerous so I don’t want one” thread. I respect table saws and will always make the safe choice, sometimes that means a TS cut and sometimes that means a miter saw or a router table (which may not be safer, depending on the cut). My “problem” is that I h... |

Advice on how to taper without a thicknesser? - 4 replies The project I am working on requires 4 circle-ish shapes that are about 6 inches in diameter and the thickness tapers from 3/4” to 1/32” or so. I am using poplar because this part will not be seen, but it will act as a spacer between two pieces of oak. If that was not clear, perhaps this would help: If I had a thickness planner I w... |

how many 220s do you need/wish you had? - 29 replies The title is somewhat self explanatory. I plan on adding some electrical soon and can’t decide how many 220s I will want.. I figure at least 3 will leave me with options. What do you guys think? |

Mountain Shed, Fir and Redwood - 8 replies Old growth Fir and Redwood, most of it was milled on site. There is a fun background story that would take far too long to tell, but the short version is that a place was needed to store some equipment, so why not overbuild a storage shed right?Figured some here would appreciate it. |

Only sort of off topic -sawstop politics - 0 replies So I just learned that Das Williams, the CA state assembly man who brought the bill “active injury mitigation technology” (read: sawstop) on all saws sold after January 1, 2015, received $2,500 for his campaign from SD3 LLC, you know, saw stop. That’s politics for you. |

A streamlined shop, New tools, not dream tools - aka to festool or not - 11 replies I am starting to put some power tools in my shop, but I am trying to avoid buying cheap tools where I would regret the purchase after a year. Recently I didn’t purchase an old radial arm saw because I realized that while it can do lots of things: cross-cuts, miters, tennons, some dado work, ect… I would likely have other tools that ... |
