IT teacher, minister, astronomer who enjoys his wife and three kids. Primary hobby is astrophotography (see webpage) and I work part-time as a consultant and in small observatory construction and automation. But as a hobby, it requires a lot of time that I no longer have, at least until some of my remote, robotic observatory projects are complete and ready for beta testing.

So, with a new house and full size garage, I thought I'd go ahead and build my shop - woodworking is something I've loved and enjoyed all my life with my father, in his shop, of course. This is my first place of my own where I actually have room for a shop! And it will serve as a productive hobby (furniture for the house) that I can quickly and easy do in my spare hour here and there.

I did a kitchen remodel this summer, though at present time I'm still customizing the existing oak cabinets. Of course, doing the work myself requires more cool tools, which I can afford because I'm doing all the work - electrical, dry-wall, tiles...you name it.

My father always bought two of everything growing up, so I already had some decent tools - in addition to the nicer tools I've bought myself through the years. However, I need to upgrade key components.

Got a good Craigslist deal on a 1993 Delta Unisaw 3HP, and fitted a nice Incra 1000HD miter on it. Wow...beats the tar outta the Craftsman table top model I had before - and the Craftsman contractor saw I'd used for years at my Dad's. I recently added a Bench Dog router extension table to the left wing and a Rockler FX lift where my Bosch 1617 router is mounted. I would like to upgrade the stock fence to an Incra LS-TS system though...would be cool double use of the Incra.

I have a good Hitachi 12" Miter saw and a cheap drill press. I have a jointer, planer. and bandsaw that I can still use at my Dad's, but I'm thinking about upgrading those for my home shop, especially since I'd like to do some resawing and perhaps milling (my family land is 40 acres of mostly oak trees).

Not an expert at woodworkingfrom, but not a notice either. Looking forward to learning a lot more from all the great Lumberjocks!

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless
