Hey Corey, The turnings look pretty good. What lathe do you use? I’m in the market.

Hi Ryan, thanks for the kind words. I first got into turning about a year and a half ago. My lathe is a Penn State Ind. Mini Lathe:

It’s basically a copy of the Jet Mini… actually I think it is made from the same main casting as it is identical. Anyway, it’s a good first lathe if you don’t want to turn bowls. I have turned a lot of pens, boxes and other smaller vases etc. up to 4 i-5 inches around. I like it a lot. If you have any questions on it, let me know.

I would recommend the variable speed Jet Mini as a first lathe as well if your planning do do small turings. Pens are a lot of fun. Mine gets used all the time. You can hang on to it when your ready to step up and use it for small projects. I have an old Delta, 12” but it is kind of a pain to change speeds.

I think when I upgrade my lathe I think it will be this model. I like the features and it sells for around 400.00

Looks like a good choice. About $100 more than the Jet, bigger swing, pivoting head, etc….

Corey,

Or should I say Mr. Boxinator? :-) I haven’t gotten around to welcoming you here. Well…hearty welcome! Look forward to chatting here and on our other favorite site.

PS…..I’m putting the last coat of finish on that humidor and should have a pic up tomorrow.
