Stanley 78 restoration

My boss sent me a picture over the weekend and told me his grandfather’s 78 was up for grabs.

Now it is mine! (insert maniacal, world conquering laugh)

It is in pretty good shape. The iron will go in the vinegar tonight to soak. It is obviously missing the fence and the depth stop. I have seen some for sale on ebay, but I wanted to ask the community if anyone had any spare parts lying around. I would much rather buy from people who know and care about keeping old tools dirty with new dust.

If anybody knows of a good resource, please let me know. I will update the post with new pics as she comes back to life. Stay tuned…

I restored my father’s 78 which was missing the fence. Stanley still makes this plane; you can order the parts you need directly from Stanley.

here is a whole list of resources, http://lumberjocks.com/donwilwol/blog/24092

but ebay (new Hampshire plane parts) usually has them, but they will most likely cost more than you can find a complete plane for if your patient.

Congrats on a quality find. I have a copy of this plane which I use a lot, but I have misplaced the mounting pin for it’s fence.
