THIS IS MY SUMMER WORKSHOP
From May until the end of October, my sweetheart, & I move from our small home in town, to a smaller lake cabin home. We stay there until the weather permits us.
Our cabin is located on a peninsula with about 500 feet of shoreline.
It’s like Heaven on Earth in the”Land of Sky Blue Waters”.
Check out our Blog series, of our cabin.
I have a fresh air shop in the back yard, under a canopy.
I had a problem last fall. The motor on my portable tablesaw burned out, so I hauled my old radial arm saw up there. The motor on that burned out the first time I used it. This spring I bought a new tablesaw, & that overheated, but luckily it blew the circuit breaker before causing any damage. I checked my voltage & it was low. The power company installed a recorder on my meter, & proved my suspicion of low voltage. They installed a new transformer closer to my cabin, my voltage is fine now, & I’m back in business.
My main project this summer has been making some Cedar log furniture.
When we move to town, I’ll update this to my shop in town.

Joe.
We just moved to town last week. Just in time to enjoy our first snow yesterday, 20 degrees this morning.
Now I have to start getting my garage shop at home organized, it’s a mess. I lit the “SHIVER” furnace today.

Dick,
We’re getting our first snow today. It looks like we’ll get about 6” if it keeps up. This is a little early for us. Normally we don’t get anything sticking to the ground til sometime in Novemember.
I guess the positive side is this means I’ll start spending more time in my shop.

Hi don,
Check out my blog, about organizing my workshop. It’s still a little bit messed up, but I’m getting there.
Right now I’m in the designing stage of building a Secretary desk for my recently married Granddaughter. I couldn’t find anything to my liking, so it makes things a little more difficult.

Thanks Shawn.
Right now we’re living in town, and waiting for summer to fight its way back. I think we had our first below zero morning today, which is highly unusual for this area.

That is about the neatest work shop area that I have seen. What a wonderful place to spend quality time. Your very lucky and as was stated I can see where you get your inspirations from – you have a real talent for work and picking a beautiful place to work in.

Dick;
Heaven on earth!
You must have lead a good life for God to treat you so well!
So far, my favorite of the “projects” part of this forum is your bench with your lovely wife sitting there. The best part is the hearts and names you engraved in the top. Truly a project from the heart.

Hey buddy I’ve had my scouts out looking for you. You had me worried you or Barb were laid up or something. Of course you always think the worse. I got that from my Mom. We missed you. By the way that is one beautiful picanic table. You sure you won’t invite me and my walleye killer boat up to your lake. I got down riggers, planer boards, all the gear a walleye turney fisherman has, I got sonar, radar I don’t have one of those cameras but I hang onto my wifes ankles and dip her overboard to check for walleye, just don’t anyone tell her I let the cat out of the bag, so to speak. She might not like people to know she does that. Anyway I’ve even got a livewell to keep them fresh till we get back to shore and the women can clean em while their fresh. Boy am I gettin into trouble here. I’d better stop right now, or Ms Deb and God knows who else will be calling my wife and tattling on me. Just great hearing from you and really nice table Dick. Oh yea did I tell ya I got GPS. your buddy mike

Hi Dick,
You originally posted this long before I came on board but it just now surfaced on my list. To tell you the truth I don’t see how on earth you could get any work done here. I would be spending my time either on the lake or simply enjoying its serenity. Somehow the noise from a tablesaw or planer seems totally at odds with the setting.
But I will say this you have the most gorgeous shop I have seen yet. I am glad I got to share this.

I don’t run my machines continuously, I give them a rest once in awhile., but then my carving mallet may be noisier than any of the power tools. My neighbors on both sides of me are over 200 feet, & they’re not there all of the time.
We can hardly wait to get out there this spring, it’s usually not until the end of April before the snow is gone on our road.

Beautiful cabin and a really nice view out to the lake. Really enjoy your carvings. I am going to have to give it a try someday when I am a little more comfortable with the wood.
Thank you.

All that snow must be dreadful – tell you what, we can trade! Yes, you can move here to Phoenix Arizona and my girlfriend and I can move there. You will never have to worry about snow ever again. Never mind what you may have heard about the 115 degree temperatures – it is a dry heat so it really isn’t that bad. Also, the scorpions and cactus are much cutter that you would think. Really…
Who am I kidding? Do you need an assistant?

It’s to dry for mosquitoes down there I bet. I’ll trade them for some scorpions.
When it gets above 85 here it’s too hot, but thanks for dry, & hot invite. <;O)

Sure thing… Actually, I have full intentions of moving back to Oregon, where I belong. I only have to solve two minor issues. 1st I need to find a job that at least closely matches my present salary and benefits. 2nd I need to find a place to live where I can continue with my woodworking. Now, if you could combine the two, I would be in heaven.
