Making a Carved Fireplace Mantel #2: Applying Brazilian Cherry inlay on the top

« Part 1: Getting Started Part 2 of Making a Carved Fireplace Mantel series no next part

Now that the Challenge 01 Table is done, I started working on the mantel again. Also to get the full story, check out part #1: Getting Started,

Yesterday I re-sawed enough Brazilian Cherry to cover the top. This morning I planed them to a 1/4” thickness, & proceeded to fit the inlay.

The Cherry really added some beauty to the mantel. It’s a nice contrast to the Black Ash.

My Son stopped by, & was surprised that I already found a use for the flooring he gave me.

Here’s some pictures.
Before

After

Another After Now I'll start doing some Chiseling, after it's glued down.

Dick, this is a big undertaking. I look forward to seeing just how this fits. The extension in the lower portion of the picture above has me puzzled, but I’m sure this will all become clear as you show us more.

Thanks, Mate.

Nice job Dick. That flooring looks great on top. And the carving is an added bonus.

it’s lovely!!!!
Now I can see what to do with the oak flooring that Rick brought home. If only I had one of those metal detector thingies to see where the nails are in the wood.

Thanks everybody,
Debbie, this was brand new, so I didn’t have to watch for nails.
