Chip I took a break for a while. I have a grandson now. He loves to come and play with Pawpaw in the shop. Life is good. Miss you. Have they got woodworking tools up there?

I was just going through some of my buddies activities and was very saddened to realize that I would not be able to share my thoughts with a fellow woodworker, I am new to this site, and have not really connected to a lot of people in this world, due to mostly being on the road trucking, and Lumberjocks is probably the closest I have ever come to feeling like I belong to a group of people. I would like to send my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Chip, this very nice man who was very gracious to me and was one of the first buddies I had here on the site. Thanks Chip for sharing your friendship with me, you will be missed

I'm very sorry to hear of Chips passing. Chip and I both live in Delaware and we had been chatting on off with each other. I'd invited him to my shop but it never worked out. We kept talking about getting together for coffee when I would go up to Woodcraft close to his home.

I was at Woodcraft one time and ran in to get some gel poly for the Toy Workshop. My wife was in the car. I headed in and made a quick bathroom run and walked buy a man standing by the wood pile. I then headed to the front counter to get my purchase. This man was standing at another register. I made my purchase and left.

Chip send me a message a few days later and asked me if I was at Woodcraft. I told him I was there but I was confused by the day and I told him a different day. And I stated that the only person I saw was an old fart with a piece of Bloodwood and Zebra wood at the register.

He replied are you kidding me. I had to go find my receipt to see when I was there. He had bought some blookwood and zebra wood. So I was standing about 6 feet away and we never connected.

We both laughed about that . Chip you will be sorely missed and I'm sorry that we never got that coffee.

Chip took a year off from his life to take care of his mother and his aunt when they were both sick. They died within a month of each other. It was at that time he came back to LJ's. A kind man with a great heart.

Rest in Peace my fellow LJ'er.

Well said Debbie on all points. I've only been a lumberjock for just over a year but Chip was a kind helpful & very encouraging inspiration to me. I really liked his work but I only knew him for a year & I feel robbed

I was thinking about Chip (again) this morning and thinking about how my life is better because of him.
    • because of Chip, I have laughed more in my life
    • because of Chip, I feel a stronger sense of community and friendship
    • because of Chip, I remember (more often) to speak (and type) with honour and integrity
    • because of Chip, LumberJocks.com is a better place. Whenever he participated in a conversation he set the bar for camaraderie, for friendliness, for a lighthearted perspective, for support, and for woodworking knowledge

Because of Chip, I am a better person.

I don't say much here, but am an avid reader… Chip was one of the good ones. Always topical, humorous when the situation called for it, and generous with both wisdom and knowledge. I'm sure he was in heaven, as the proverb says, half an hour before the devil knew he was dead! I will miss him.

    Good Bye Chip!

Chip has been one of our sincerest BUDDIES on this site.

I'd like to show you private message he sent to us showing how sincere he was.

"Haven't been around for a while".
"Was catching up on things on here over the past day or so and noticed a blog about your wife being ill. I am very, very sorry to hear that Dick and am hoping that she is doing better. You are an inspiration around here (actually I should say the two of you are) and I hope that you are hanging in there during this stressful time.

Having been through a marriage that didn't work out terribly well I just want to tell you that it is very reassuring to me when I see a couple married and in love for so long that happy relationships are possible. In these stress-filled times that we live in, sometimes when a person gets divorced they feel as though being happy in a relationship isn't possible. I know I certainly felt that way for a long time after my divorce. Having watched and listened to you over the short period I have known you I am constantly reminded that love between two people is still possible and something to hope and strive for.

OK, enough of this rambling. You both are in my thoughts and prayers. Dick, it is my honor to know someone with such talent and more than that, someone who combines such wisdom and talent with such large amounts of generosity and humility".

"Best regards to you and your wife",

    "Chip"

    What!
This is so sad, a kind person you were and an inspiration to all with your beautiful creations and kind support….. a reflection of what was in your heart.

My heartfelt condolances go out to Chips family and friends, which were no doubt many,

Oh Chip.. my heart is breaking. I will miss those "good morning" messages, the teasing about the painted walnut. I am still in shock at the news.

My heart-felt condolences to family and friends. Chip has been a great online friend. I am honoured to have known him over the past several years.
