Part 1: Cutting the mortises

So I am out walking the mall and I like to go in the furniture stores and check out the different styles. I came across a valet. I had never seen one before but the purpose was cool and the piece seems real easy. If you have never seen one they are all over google images. As I do this build I thought I would doment it in a series since I plan on using nothing but hand tools- thanks for looking

Part 2: Shaping and fitting the base

The mortises were done so the next step was to shape the base. I cut the outline of the curves first with a saw then shaped with the spokeshave. It is so nice on endgraing when it is sharp. The end result is very smooth and the shavings chocolate shavings from a cake. It feels great when it is properly set up, it makes quick work of the curves, even on end grain Then I cleaned the parts a bit with the number 6. Does a great job.
