Part 1: An Interesting Time...

01-05-2016 04:23 PM by CharlieK | 8 comments »

I started my website and posted my first YouTube video about 7 years ago. Over that time I did what I could to maintain them and keep them fresh, but there are only so many hours in the day. Consequently,I maintained the site fairly well, but I didn’t do much on YouTube. Honestly, I didn’t get in the shop as much I wanted to either. I recently retired from my job of 31 years. Now I finally have more time, there is STILL never enough time, but I do have more time for some of...

Part 2: Travelling to Reno

01-07-2016 06:30 PM by CharlieK | 3 comments »

I am really excited about my my trip to conduct interviews with prominent woodworkers! I wanted to leave Minneapolis early on Monday, but I didn’t get on the road until after 4PM. I have been behind the wheel ever since, but I did take a few pictures along the way. I had always heard of the Corn Palace in Mitchell SD so when I realized that I happened to be right there I had to stop and take a few pictures. They take their corn very seriously in South Dakota!! I als...

Part 3: I made it to Reno......and Beyond!

01-13-2016 03:26 AM by CharlieK | 14 comments »

The first leg of my trip was driving from Minneapolis to Reno so that I could interview Zac Higgins. Me and Zac Higgins The drive was long, but pleasant. I haven’t been in the mountains for a few years and the scenery through Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada was beautiful! There was a long stretch outside of Casper WY where the sky was bright and sunny, and the surface of the snow was crystallized. For miles and miles, the snow looked like it was coated with bright shimmering diamonds...

01-19-2016 06:22 AM by CharlieK | 2 comments »

This is really turning out to be the trip of a lifetime! I interviewed Zac Higgins in Carson City and Ray Mowder in Sacramento. Both of them are great guys and I had a lot of fun meeting with them! Then I drove further into northern California and interviewed the great sculptor Michael Cooper! It so happens that David Marks lives just a few miles from Michael and I got to spent an entire day with him! Then, the icing on the cake was that Peter Brown also lives in the area and I g...

I heard from him just this morning and he said we can meet on Wednesday. I would really appreciate your input!!! Please let me know, what would you say to Marc if you were given the opportunity to meet with him one on one? I go into a bit more detail in my most recent update video (below). Part 6: THE WOOD WHISPERER, Chad Shimmel, Ty Moser, and Sun City West

02-22-2016 02:19 AM by CharlieK | 8 comments »

After my wonderful stay in Los Angeles I drove to Phoenix. It took 5 hours just to get out of LA but that was not enough to tarnish the memory. I REALLY liked Phoenix! Actually, I stayed with friends in Sun City West and I had a great time. It was in the 80’s the whole time I was there and I even got to play a round of golf. The folks at Sun City have a fabulous wood shop, unfortunately I didn’t get any photos of it. :( Anyway, I DID get to meet The Wood Whisperer! We ...

Part 7: A REAL sneak peek! An example of my "Warm Up" routine!

View on YouTube This little video is only 1 minute long. I try to be positive and upbeat, especially in my videos. But, it doesn’t always just “happen”. Sometimes I have a hard time getting in the zone. Yesterday I was feeling especially sluggish and it took a bit of doing for me to get ready! Initially, I was only going to show this video to a small group of people because I was worried about what people might think. The people who did see it encouraged me to ma...

10-15-2016 01:35 AM by CharlieK | 8 comments »

View on YouTube https://youtu.be/luTo6q1smSs Last week I was lucky enough to have LJ’s own Doc Savage visit my shop. Of course I put him to work while he was there!! All kidding aside, it was nice of him to stop by and we had a really nice visit. Anyway, I shot some video of him while he was here and included it in my most recent shop update. Among that and other things, I also discuss having a little trouble with a minor upgrade to my Festool Domino. Check it out and...
