Cathie Zimmerman's Workshop Cathie Zimmerman's Workshop

Phoenix, AZ
United States

Hi! Welcome to an intro to my little shop. I’ve always been into cars, trucks, boats and the like. If it is a mode of transportation…. I’m into it. Although I still enjoy tinkering with engines and the smell of oil and gas, I thought I’d give wood working a try. I’m so lucky to have a spouse that is super supportive of “hobbies.”

I’ve built small things in the past… Like an outboard motor stand (for this sweet little 1957 9.8 hp Mercury tiller handle motor), a saw horse, a couple non weight bearing walls… And I think a napkin holder when I was a kid. My point is, as much as I liked to dig into motors, building wood projects was always more satisfying. My favorite part to walk through at Big box store is through the lumber area. The smell is unbelievably awesome.

My shop is a work in progress; I’m excited to embark on this journey!

Oh, it should be noted that the shop supervisor’s name is Zero. She runs a tight ship for sure. You can find her in one of those pictures on a break just beyond the saw horse.

Another shop update! There are some new tool additions you’ll see. I look at the pictures from a few months ago and the ones I took tonight and WOW what a difference.

Lumber rack inspired by Marc Spagnuolo (The Wood Whisperer).

im excited for each tool and associated equipment to have its own “place.” I started to dread going out for shop time because I was always tripping over extension cords, searching for that one piece of hardware or that certain tool. I spent more time griping about not being able to find something than working with said something. It keeps getting better and better. With the wood out of the way and off the floor it feels like I have more room. I also noticed boards would warp pretty fast on the floor. The top would dry out and the bottom would take on moisture… Maybe from the concrete? Then the material was just a pain to work with. I’m excited to continue with the kids table and chairs I was working on before I’d had enough and demanded organization!

The shop Supervisor… Overseeing the endeavor.

Zero, after she worked so hard supervising.

Sorry about the side ways images! Sometimes I forget to take the pics in landscape orientation so they display right here when I post from my phone.
