Sizing when looking at plans. - 5 replies
So, something struck me when I was looking at a cutting list. If it is listed as needing a 2X2 of say, cedar. And I have some left over 2X4’s of cedar. Is the original listed as an actual 2X2 or 1.1/2X1.1/2? So, if I try to rip my 2X4 at exactly 2inches, will it be right? Or would I have to rip it at 1.1/2?

So we have all seen the sites that tout the most plans, the cheapest. The question I pose is this, which is it? Or, without saying it depends on what I’m looking for. Just an overall opinion of the “best” is fine. Thanks.

Last coat on a coffee table - 5 replies
So, I refinished a coffee table for my wife. I am actually happy with the way the stain came out. What comes next? I don’t want to throw butcher block oil on it, but I want it to be food safe. So? Do I seal it? With what? Thanks.

An easy lathe problem that I need some help with. - 10 replies
I have been given the green light for a Xmas lathe. Yay. Now, this is my first one. I have used them before, in life and high school woodshop, so I am familiar with using them. But, I have a few questions. If I am working with a budget and this is my first one, what should I be looking at? I see the beds, and I always think “Well, MiniR...

Sand straight - 7 replies
We all know that jointing is a wonderful thing. But, lets say, you have some thin, small pieces. l am working with some panels that are about 2”x 3”x 1/4”. What is the best method for making these square using a sander? Is it just using a square and starting with the closest to perfect and then moving on? Sidenote-I actually do...

A dust/air cleaner comparison question. - 11 replies
I have narrowed my search down to the following. Which is to say I wouldn’t mind spending the money for any of these. I was hoping to get some opinions if anybody (which I’m sure some of you do) about these. As far as size, they will all work for the space I have also. So it comes down to which are any good, and would even the cheap ...

I have been working on making some of these and here is the problem. The left side of the insert has a ridge that has to be routed. And the far-side of the insert has two tabs that have to hook into the table itself. Both of these, however, are just the start. The other problem is the frame for anti-kickback, this creates an issue for just raisi...

To start, I live in Woodstock, Illinois. I have a two car garage and a full, unfinished basement. I have done some projects, but haven’t established my “home” for my shop. I need some help with narrowing down which one should be the better choice. If you can, add any missed points, or enhance any that are already said. So, my b...

My Christmas present from my Father.. - 24 replies
What a great man he is. My first ever (owned) tablesaw, and I don’t think I could have done any better. I was looking at a Ryobi, my budget must be a tad slimmer than his.

Help with Router Bits - 9 replies
Ok, I am trying to make some sense of this. What, in your opinion, is a really solid, well-priced brand for Router Bits? I have seen reviews of small sets, even reviews of just one bit. But I just need a little direction for brand. Bosch? Or, if its easy, what brand should one steer clear of? Thanks guys.

Are these any good? Or, does the price justify the purchase? I have an Arrow for brads, and a decent stapler, but nothing for the larger nails. Any guidance about these 5? I see lots of reviews for this piece from a year to (as recent as) 6 months ago. Everyone is posting that back then the price was around $300 at HD, yet, today its listed at $429. Could the price have gone up? Am I missing something? Thanks.
