Solid, Flat and Heavy!

This is a 10' x 28'' Torsion box work bench i'm building it will sit on 2 2.5' wide cabinets one with 4 drawers and one with doors and adjustable shelving.

The top is made out of about 4 sheets of 3/4'' mdf…... SOLID!

Wrapped in walnut pieces 2.5' long with end on end dove tails, and dove tail corners using walnut and really white walnut sap wood to create contrast at the joints.

I got the idea from the wood whisperer if you notice I have my own 8' x 4' torsion box assembly table that is his design. He used 1/2'' mdf I thought for the extra $$ which is not much might as well go with 3/4'' and the top will have a sheet that sits on top that can be replaced also 3/4'' he said to use 1/4'' hard board…lol

Clamps, mmmmmmmm clamps!! lol local store had bessys on at half price, how could I not load up but still there have been times i've needed more!

Busy day

So you get work done when no one drops by, so it's been a good day in the shop

Pictures show right side cabinet with 2 doors mounted and adjustable shelf

4 drawers sit on top waiting to go into the other cabinet. first time trying box joints made a jig for the router table but wished I had a 1/2'' up spiral bit, had more tear out then I would have liked.

Also oak drawer fronts

Top just waiting for the last layer of mdf which is removable after hopefully a long time!

All finished, I wish I was keeping it

Well all finished just have to add a few more coats of poly to the mdf I do about 6-8 on the mdf for the extra protection.

Anyways here are a few pictures of it completed, i'll try and get some pics of where it's new home will be.

The sides are walnut lot's of sap wood, entire boards of it first time using wood like this, red oak doors and drawers.
