Here goes.. the name is Connie Carey.. hence the "CC" part of the ID handle. Married lady to a fine man named Rick. We are both retired.. I worked in hospital administration, Rick was a paramedic/firefighter. We both need to be busy with our hands always.

Some years back we kept some special keep sakes of the kids from their growing up years and sold every thing else.. kissed the kids goodbye and moved aboard our sailboat "Tyree". She being a 28ft on deck, 34ft over all including bowsprit (Bristol Channel Cutter) and the loveliest home we will ever own. Every place we went was waterfront property! We traveled the inside straight to Alaska living in various bays along the way. That's a very long and favorite story of mine and I do go on..another time. As time passed we needed to go back home more and more often to check on mom's. We bought an Airstream trailer and traveled the US returning home every four months or so. Until we had to stay permanently to take care of Rick's mom. Alzheimer's .. and we knew "AL" wasn't leaving.

Then Rick and I were in a motorcycle/sidecar accident. Rick wasn't hurt (forever thankful).. I was. The sidecar I was in hit a telephone pole and I had multiple injuries to both legs. That was two years ago this coming May. Next week I will have no. 10 and 11 surgery. These are to fuse my ankle that was shattered. I know the score I'll be down for 10 - 12 weeks.

I have always had an interest in wood, stone, clay anything that I could sculpt. On our travels I carved stone. Since we have been back in Campbell. (living in his mom's home.. remember we sold everything.. sigh)
Rick built me a work station (actually two 1st was before the accident, one after so the wheel chair would fit) (he's the brilliant one) and I carve wood.. any and all kinds of wood. I am a pyrographer as well.. as I mentioned I love that word.. means I like to burn pictures in wood.

Rick has been taking care of me (I am getting better.. started walking about 4 months ago now) and building a beautiful small replica of "Tyree" in the garage (he calls his shop) She's a 19ft cutter a pocket cruiser and we can't wait to sail her.
I have been carving relief pieces and wood burning as well. Life is good again.. and the wood working is our therapy!

Wow! Thanks everybody! Really appreciate the welcome!

I’m trying this morning to get myself organized to write a little in my profile about who I am. Just a tiny bit for now k?
My name is Connie Carey.. hence the “CC” part… LOL.. I live in Campbell, Ca. Raised in the area although born in Detroit, MI. Moved to Ca when I was 7. So because I’m 54 that pretty much makes me a Ca girl. Although I remember the cold and humid in Mi.
I’ve been relief carving for a few years. I use a Foredom power tool and also I am a pyrographer.. love that word.. just means I like to burn pictures in wood…
Currently I’m working on a relief carving of a boat and harbor scene that somewhat resembles Port Townsend, Wa. Which was our hailing Port when we lived aboard out lovely sailboat “Tyree”..
I am so very impressed by the pieces y’all have made. Real talent here, just beautiful!! Was a real treat to find this site.
Thanks again.. Chat soon and I’ll try to get some pictures up asap. Just was able to buy a new laptop but everything isn’t transferred to it yet.. like my pictures.. duh..

Best to all,
CC…

Welcome! I’m sorry to hear of the accident and I hope you recover properly. Surgery seems scary but it sounds like you’ve been through it enough to not be to bothered. I look forward to seeing your carvings and projects. If you have any questions just let them fly. Someone here will be able to help you.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless

Thanks Rj…

I appreciate your email! I’ve been not able to do too much on my carving because I’m still recouping from my ankle/foot/toes (LOL boy that looks bad written) surgery Feb. 11th. My husband built me a lovely table to use while in the wheel chair, however my foot swells so quickly when not elevated. sighhhhhhh… I’m getting some days in but not enough. It’s on my mind constantly. So what I’ve been doing is making patterns for new carving.
I’ll for sure put some questions out there for help, basically very much a newbie at all of this.. but.. I love it.. and I’m hooked!

Best to you and yours!

When I first saw CCgirl and where you were from I thought Campbell California for CC.

I guess you can go either way. A belated welcome aboard!
