Band saw skills - 6 replies

I’m limited with my Band Saw. I can only rip a 6.25” piece. I’m kicking the idea of cutting an project which would require me to rotate the wood thru the blade. Hopefully, this would allow me to gain an additional 1’2” maybe as much as an inch, maybe more. Has anyone found them in the same situation? Have you ...

Security warning for all LJ's - 16 replies

The other day I was wandering around here and went to the shops tab. I was totally blown by the number folks listing and showing their shops for the whole world to see. What knocked me out of the saddle was so many have their entire street address listed. One of them was an LJ buddy of mine. Me being the very suspicious and untrusting ex cop...

The most under appreciated and most useful tool in the shop. - 16 replies

Today I was working on a drawer and pulled out my utility knife to trim a little piece of wood on a dado. Got me to thinking how often I pull it out to scrap, trim, cut or what ever the heck. I’ve got it in my apron pocket almost all the time. Going for it is second nature after all these years, muscle memory. I mean a quick trim , litt...

I stumbled across this website whilst looking for information on my 50+ year old Atlas band saw. The site is It’s got quite an extensive list of owners manuals for wood and metal machines. It’s quite obvious that most of the companies have gone by the wayside. Just thought some of you folks might be interest...

Whiteside router bits - 21 replies

I just got off the phone with a very nice young lady at Whiteside. I’d been experiencing some problems with a Whiteside router bit and collet. I called and spoke with Todd who gave me a few suggestions and if they didn’t solve the problem to send the router bits and he’d rework them. That was 2 weeks ago. They arrived this ...

dust filter question. - 3 replies

I’m building a dust/air filter for my garage shop. It’s 30’X30’ with 9’ ceiling. I bought a 22” fan from Best Buy with a remote control and may put a timer on it so it’ll run for awhile after I close down for the night. Here’s my question. Is there a recommended distance between the last filter ...

If any of you LJ’s have seen or know topamaxsurvivor, He’s got a really, profound quotation at the end of his posting.
