I'm a forester and entomologist by trade. I've been wanting to get into woodworking for a long time, and took the plunge when my father in law gave us his pristine Millers Falls/Langdon Acme mitre box with Disston saw. I've been acquiring (mostly antique) hand tools since then, and I'm trying to teach myself the traditional ways of working wood. I'm impressed with all the skill and knowledge shared through this website, and hope to contribute much in the future. All I need is time.

Aloha! I’d like to share with the world my restoration of a Stanley No. 4 smoothing plane. I picked up this plane last spring off C-list. Here's a post from when I got it if you are interested in seeing more “before” photos. I...
I’ve been (very) slowly plugging away at my workbench here and there. I think I finally have made enough progress for another post. I noticed that the 2×6 that I had for my last leg was pretty twisted and knotty. I glued it up to see...
My office building where I work is upgrading their HVAC system, and the new equipment was delivered packed in long crates. The wood was going to be scrapped so I loaded up my hatchback and brought it home. Now I figure I have to make a proper work...
