« Part 1: Camphor Laurel-YES! Part 2 of Found/Given Wood series no next part

Hey everyone,
pretty good score this time (for me anyway)

My dad and I were out looking for some turning wood this afternoon. We’d been looking for ages when I suggested we have a look up a track where we found THIS last time. Good suggestion….

this is what I took home-

this one weighed about 15 kg (33 pounds) Saw for scale

this one weighs about the same, but its a bit shorter

the beast- this one’s under 2 ft but weighs 25kg (55 pounds)

This was only about 1/3 of what was there. We’re going back next weekend for more. The widest log is about 9 or 10 inches. I am going to flat saw these so I get the most width out of them. There will probly be a few bowl blanks as well.

These pictures were taken when most of the bark was already off. I think these are quite green because the bark was on there very tightly.

This is why they call it scribbly gum; thats the common term for it but i’m not too sure what the real name is. I’ll post pictures once its all cut up and stacked.

Thanks for looking

Nice piece of gum.
I will bring you some hairy oak when I visit in a few weeks.
