Photography #1: The light tent

I don’t know one end of a camera from the other, and I’m not concerned enough the lighting effects and how I should get studio quality pictures to show here.
I do know you knock out some awesome projects and I wish I had that kind of talent.
I’m saving up for a lathe and plan to bug you with a few questions when I can.

Nice job getting it done with a cheap fix. I purchased a pop up tent w/ two light stands and I was quite disappointed in my results. The tent gave a nice mellow glow, but the lighting was too subtle and did not show any of the intense grain pattern and the colors were muddy. I will need to change my light source for the tent for sure.

I usually use my dining table with a background cloth of grey microsuede fabric. My light source are ceiling mounted halogen track lights, so I have 5 glare spots to try to avoid. I turn my cane in the most beneficial direction and try to avoid scratching it against the legs of the tripod, as I have to do some pretty odd angles to get the glare, shadows and background just right. I’m having to stick with this method for now as it gives me the clarity of the grain until I can figure something else out.

The tent has made a big difference with the quality of the photos, I have a project that I’v used the light tent for and I’m going to post it tonight
