Here is a video of turning a spinning top on the lathe. It isn’t a “how to” video, just a here you go video. I really don’t have enough know how for it to be instructional.

Nice video, good work !!! I have made alot of those tops also. What is the reason for that type of finish ?

That spins really well! I wasn’t sure what that finish is either…it looked like CA glue? Is that right? If so, that sounds intriguing.

The finish is CA glue (Superglue), same thing that a lot use for finishing pens.
I used it because it is fast drying and protects the wood from getting dirty with all of the hands spinning the tops. I tried just some wax but they still get dirty.
I tried tried shellac, and it worked well, it just took longer to dry. The tops started out as practice and now I am addicted to turning them. I have about 30 that I have turned so far!
