I've been seriously bitten by the but now, and amid some large projects (building a quilting frame for my wife, for example) I've recently turned my attention to small projects that I can do in a few days' time.
By day I'm a software engineer. I live in Virginia these days but have also called Iowa, Kansas, Colorado and Australia home. And in a very real sense, my wife and I "still call Australia home" as it was our first real home after we married in 2001, and until we moved back to CO in 2006 before returning to Virginia in 2010. I'm about to embark on a new adventure now as I try to productize an idea that began in my woodshop.
And I'm proud to be part of one of the friendliest communities on the web!

I’ve now officially got less than a month left here in Colorado before my family and I head back to Virginia. I wasn’t a woodworker while there, but I am now, and will be looking for good advice on preparing my tools for short-to-medi...
Today I wandered out the the shop to continue work on this box. I sanded the whole thing to 320, using sandpaper glued to a jointed block to get the corneres and flat surfaces and so I wouldn’t round over my chamfer. I then cut recesses in...
Lacking a band saw, I had to turn to my table saw to cut the lid free once the box was glued up. I used a combination of masking tape and a Bessey band clamp to hold the box together while the glue dried overnight. Using a full-kerf blade (sin...
