2 days ago, i’ve became a lumberjock member and i thought it was time for a little introduction :)

I’m not a complete noob on lumberjocks, because I visit it every day for the past year soooo….
My name is Bram (typical name in Belgium) Couttouw and i’m 15 years old. English is my third language, so be nice to me if i make any mistakes :). It’s my fourth year at school where I learn to work with wood, altho I don’t learn that much anymore, because I’ve learned a lot from the internet and out of own experience.

This may sound funny, but I started woodworking when i was 9 years old. well, actually, only the last 2 years, i’ve got serious about it. In 2010 I’ve bought my first router and tablesaw and in 2011, I’ve bought a Jointer/ Planer/ mortiser combo machine and also a 2hp dust collector. I can make really nice things with these machines and in fact, I’ve made a couple of big projects so far.

My shop is only 12’ x 14’ wich is too small and is constantly a work in progress. My shop is attached to the house and next to the shop is a garage wich i could use to extend my shop, but my parents won’t let me :(

Well, I think you all know a bit of me right now.

Welcome to Lumberjocks! It’s a truly great and helpful bunch of people. Your post was very timely. I’m an American living in Brussels and a new wood worker. I’ve been unable to find decent wood anywhere. I, of course, have been to Brico and some of the other large hardware chains but onl find plywood. I live in Tervuren and am hoping you have a suggestion or two for me. Thanks in advance.

Hi Bram.

Welcome to the madhouse! This place is home to thousands of folks who are crazy; crazy about wood. If you too are crazy about wood, welcome home. This must be the place because there’s no place like this place any place but this place. :)

As for your English, it’s better than that used by many here who speak it as their first (and only) language. (grin)

Looking forward to seeing some of your projects posted here.

DeM, i highly recommend not buying wood from diy stores, the prices are way too high and the it’s low quality wood, i suggest you look for a local wooddealer. I have a great wood dealer only 1km away from me, but i live in the north west of belgium, and you live pretty much in the center of belgium.

BigTiny, 1 thing is for sure, I am crazy about wood :)

thanks for the nice comments

Hello Bram, I live in Brussels.
I still have to find time to introduce myself properly (meaning politely, I have been lurking for quite a while) and find my way around this site.

To DeM: I can give you a few adresses in/around Brussels.

Good to have you Bram. As you have discovered already this is a crazy bunch. Can’t take them to seriously because they are not a serious bunch…..unless it is serious about wood and tools.

Thanks Bram.

Anny-I’d love some addresses in and around Brussels. I don’t even mind driving an hour or so to find wood!

Have your say...
