Preliminary Review Of The Woodpeckers WDPPACK1 Drill Press Table

Preliminary Review Of The Woodpeckers WDPPACK1 Drill Press Table

09-23-2013 04:29 AM by Brad_Nailor | 25 comments »

I have been debating for a year or so about building/buying a good drill press table for my DP. I have seen a lot of really well done ones on this website, and till a few weeks ago hadn’t really seen anything commercially made that really impressed me. I have worked a couple projects lately that I needed the DP for and just a piece of melamine poorly clamped to the metal table wasn’t cutting it.I went online for design inspiration and was looking for ideas on LJ and at commerciall...

I have recently been doing a lot of pattern routing on my router table. I had started out tracing pieces and cutting them out on the band saw then sanding them on my drum sander, with less than acceptable results (too many inconsistencies in the curves). So, I moved over to making a pattern and cutting close to the line with the band saw then finishing the cut with a pattern bit on the router table. First time I tried this I used a basic, two cutter, top mounted bearing pattern bit and immedi...

Alot to like about this planer...

Alot to like about this planer...

01-17-2011 05:28 AM by Brad_Nailor | 30 comments »

Well, I have been wanting to get one of these since I first read about them, a ways back. I read all the reviews and really wanted this planer over the DeWalt two speed. I finally got the opportunity to buy one and I took delivery of it about a week after Christmas. I bought it from Highland Hardware..they had it on sale for $499.00, and $48.00 shipping. It came UPS, and it was really heavy. Hand trucked it down to my shop and opened it up. Packed very well, and didn’t seem damaged at ...

Does the job

Does the job

12-30-2010 02:04 AM by Brad_Nailor | 11 comments »

I received one of these for Christmas and as simple as it is it does the trick. I installed it where they suggested, drilling a small pilot hole first then screwing it into the blade guide. It does a good job cleaning the tire and seems to be well made and should last a long time. i really like Carter band saw accessories. I give it 5 stars..

Modernize your Band Saw

Modernize your Band Saw

12-30-2010 01:36 AM by Brad_Nailor | 5 comments »

I was lucky enough to receive one of these for Christmas this year. It is really well made like all the other Carter products. The instructions were concise, with lots of pictures. It’s pretty straightforward to install. You have to disassemble the whole top of the bandsaw, but it’s easy. The tricky part was lining the toggle assembly up parallel to the tensioner, and marking the holes. You drill two holes to mount it and they even include the drill bit! Then you just put the saw ...

A Great Dado set..regardless of the price!

A Great Dado set..regardless of the price!

I know this dado set has been reviewed a few times but I just wanted to put up my two cents about this set. I got it for a great price from Rockler..I paid about $70 bucks with shipping. The box it comes in is nothing to write home about…in almost every review I have read on this set, the reviewer comments on the crappy box, but then I care more about whats in the box..I can make a damn box…OK I’m getting side tracked…here is what it looks like.. So I went out a...

Way Better Than Home Made Inserts

Way Better Than Home Made Inserts

12-06-2009 08:10 PM by Brad_Nailor | 16 comments »

I was going to do the usual cutting and fitting and fussing with making myself some ZCIs’ for my new Unisaw. Then I thought about exploring the world of commercially made inserts. there are allot to choose from. I was going to go with a system by Lee Valley/Veratris. It has very cool interchangeable plates and a single Alum. insert. But it was a little more than I wanted to pay ($79.00) for an insert. So I was at Woodcraft yesterday buying wheels, and I saw the Leecraft. It seemed reall...

OK…Take this with as many grains of salt as you need. Here is a great little device that lives in your IE browser that lets you spell check any text in any window on a web page. It’s free and easy to download and install. Once installed, you just right click and pick “check spelling” out of the menu. I have installed it on all the browsers/computers I own and I use it all the time, because I am a crappy speller. This add on works seamlessly, and is free. There are man...

Dixon Ticonderoga #2 HB Pencil

Dixon Ticonderoga #2 HB Pencil

Ok…I know your thinking this is a joke…but I assure you , my friends I am serious as a heart attack! Pencils these days are a sad conglomeration of strange MDF like material that feels more like rubber, and breaks easily when you try to sharpen it. Same with the leads…if your lucky enough to get a point on it after grinding down half the “pencil” in the sharpener it will break as soon as you put any pressure on it. Not at the tip…down low under the fake woo...

Rockler Thin Rip Tablesaw Jig

06-27-2008 05:46 AM by Brad_Nailor | 16 comments »

I know allot of you have made your own version of a thin strip ripping jig. I fiddled with making one and was in too much of a hurry to get my project going. I looked at this one online and liked the design and it was only $19.99 with free shipping. As usual Rockler shipped it out right away, and it was on my doorstep 4 days after I ordered it. They also accept Paypal now which is really convenient. It comes with simple instructions on the back of the box. The whole device is made out of pheno...
