OK…when I last left you with this blog, I was going to make matching urns for the cat and dog. Turns out that included in the fee we paid to have Sammy the cat cremated, it included a rather nice urn….so I will be making a single one just for Lucas the boxer.

In the last blog I decided to change the orientation of the box so I could fit a framed 4×6 photo of Lucas on the front of the box along with a brass nameplate. Also, it turns out that after making these changes, I don’t have enough of either type of materiel (Maple, Walnut) to do the whole box in a solid color. So I present to everyone, a pair of almost identical boxes…please give me your opinion of who likes what color scheme better.

First, the Maple sides with the Walnut top, bottom and splines,

Or, the Walnut sides, with the Maple top, bottom and splines,

So, I would really appreciate some feedback on which one everyone likes better…I am partial to the Maple sides…but I’m having trouble deciding

I agree Dave, maple sides, walnut highlights. Nice rendering!

I like the maple sides, but it is a close call, so consider where it is going to be displayed, depending on the lighting and other colors around it, you may be influenced one way or the other.

I am waiting on the walnut to do a simiar project. I am doing a mitered / raised panel lid, the rails / stiles (for lack of a better description) will be walnut, the panel will be cherry, the sides will be cherry with walnut mitered splines.

I like the maple sides better. The walnut base anchors the urn.

I like the walnut box better, shows more contrast with the beautiful Boxer! But both boxes are beautiful!

I like the Maple. That said, the walnut seems to draw your attention to the picture quicker.

Thanks for all the input everyone! I think I will be going with the Maple sides/Walnut top and bottom.

They are doing some wonderful work putting pictures on brass plaques with a laser these days, and it would be much more permanent than a photo.
