Hi everyone,
I’m posting an update to my shop progress. I now have moved all my equipment and tools in (they aren’t setup yet though) and have almost completed all the interior electrical work. I still have to run a trench from the main house to the shop and run a power line which I hope to do this weekend. I have about half the siding up and will hopefully get to work on the rest next week. A 9’x10’ corner of the shop will be used for my wife’s pottery studio. She stained a nice design on her floor and I put up the walls last Saturday morning. Here are a few pics of the inside of the shop including a shot of the main floor that I stained and sealed which I think turned out pretty good.

Introduction

Hello everyone,

I had been thinking it would be cool to start a woodworking blog and low and behold, when I signed up on Lumberjocks, it gave me the opportunity and makes it pretty easy so I can’t really make an excuse anymore. Anyway, I’ll reiterate what I stated on my homepage. I am 36 years old, happily married for going on 8 years now with a wonderful 14 month old son. I am a hydrologist by profession working in the environmental field for about 8 years. I have a few interests other than woodworking/turning, some of which are mountain biking, fly fishing, canoing and hiking.

I am originally from North Mississippi but moved to Athens, GA to go to graduate school and stayed for awhile… Big surprise, huh! Luckily, about 4 years ago I got a job in Athens after commuting to Atlanta for 4 years. What a relief! I now live in Commerce, GA in a 104 year old Victorian house that I am restoring. It takes up most of my time nowadays but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel finally. I’ll post some pictures of some of the before and after soon.

I have been working wood for about 12 years off and on. I have built some furniture such as armoires, kitchen cabinets, and shelving units but I am really excited at the prospect of finally getting to actually start making fine, functional furniture for my family and friends. Also, I started turning about 2 years ago and picked at a really nice lathe, a Jet 1642. I love it! Unfortunately, I tore a ligament in my thumb not long after had to have surgery so my turning time came to an abrupt halt. Of course, with the birth of my son, the majority of my time is being spent with him, and I wouldn’t have it any other way but I’ll tell ya, I can’t wait for him to be old enough to be able to do things with old Dad. Anyway, I am currently building a new shop and just moved some of my equipment in and am currently working on the wiring. It is 18’ x 32’ with 9’ ceilings and a small loft. I posted an earlier picture in the workshop section and will chronicle the progress through this blog.

Well, that’s it for now. Later.

Best,
Stacey
