At 62 I have been retired for about five years now - however, only one offically. The rest, my family advise me, were in denial. For those who are familiar with the IT industry it has been going through rapid change for years now, and after three redundancies I decided to call it quits. That was five years ago. My denial comes from the fact that I did not touch my supperannuation ( US pension) until 12 months ago.
I enlisted in the Australian Air Force and did 6 years as an electronics technician working on ASW equuipment in Neptunes, then on to ECM equipment in F111s.
Discharged in 1970 and entered the IT industry with Honeywell Information Systems. Then on to Digital Equipment Corporation, Prime Computer, Marcam, and a local company called CPS. Except for the last company, all the others have gone!
I now spend approximately 6 months each year at home in Sydney spoiling my 4 grandchildren and "working" in the shop. the other 6 months we hitch up our caravan (trailer) and head to a warmer climate. We don't stay still, spending only a couple of weeks at each location before moving up the road. If we are near the coast, then this becomes a 6 months fishing trip :)
So that's a thumb nail sketch of my life to date.
