Old Repair on Stickley Chair

Here is a picture of an old Stickley Morris chair, with an unusual repair. It’s a good patch that I didn’t see at first, and now that I found it, I admire the skill of the guy who did it. Can you spot the repair?

I repair and restore chairs and I must admit I missed it until I saw the larger image.
Now that I see it I’ll never be able to erase the memory.
I wouldn’t mind doing that for a client, but if the chair was mine I’d see that patch every time I came into the room and I’d always think everybody could see it too.

Looks like the arm broke off & was repaired.

... just at first glance…

Top of leg tenon looks different too…

He/She did a really good job matching the color and grain on top. The end grain is where I noticed the difference. Still, I wouldn’t complain about that!
