I have a detached single car garage that acts as my workshop while sharing space with some landscape equipment and misc. storage. I had been struggling with determining how to get a good layout and then I stumbled across Layout Kit for Small Shops (free PDF file). The shop in this article was about the same dimension as my shop and I can be more spacious than that one (in other words I own less tools that takeup floor space).

The heart of my workshop is my DeWalt 746X hybrid table saw on a mobile base. Across from that sits my Craftsman 12 inch Miter Saw on a portable stand.

To the back are my workbench and assembly table. I intend to build some lumber storage along that back wall right above the door height and to the right of this photo once I get my grilling and automotive repair equipment into a new addition I’m adding onto the back of this garage.

What is most lacking is a bench vise, but I have managed so far so until I run across a task I cannot accomplish without it I’d rather spend the money on lumber for my next project or saving toward getting a nice router combo kit.

Pretty nice. Reminds me of my garage shop except I had a washer and dryer in there.

This is a nice shop. I could work in there.

Thanks for the post.

Scott, that miter saw looks very familiar. Nice little shop you have over there. How well does that heater work for that space? R/ Brian
